So that was a very quick and dirty bonus video this week. We happened to be passing Kemble and the news a few weeks before about the river drying up had alerted us to its location. As we were driving by it was a good opportunity to see for ourselves. It is pretty underwhelming as I said but great fun to find and at least we can say we've been at the point where the famous river starts! Hope you found it, kind of interesting! Our next stop will be the beautiful town of Painswick which has some magical streets and lanes and stunning buildings! Coming this Sunday! Do follow us on Instagram @memoryseekers and facebook @memoryseekersuk for more photos and information on the locations we travel to. Thanks for watching!

I know you have been having consistently high temperatures in the UK this summer & little rain but the landscape was positively Australian looking, as was the dry crunch of the 'grass' underneath your feet. Thank you for trekking through the heat for this video. Love from a cold & rainy (Melbourne) Australia.

Enjoyed your video, guys. I walked the Thames Path (the other way) from the Thames Barrier to the source, with a small group of friends, about 20 years ago, over the course of a year or so. It was a lovely thing to do. I think it's time we did it again - for us, living in London, it's more appealing to walk towards the source. Guide books are usually the other way round. Thanks so much. 🙂 PS Also time to re-read _Three Men in a Boat._

Thanks for braving the heat to do this! So interesting that the river starts underground. Glad you found the stone! So many places are experiencing drought, and many secrets are being uncovered in reservoirs around the world. I've actually visited Reading! Dad's cousin lived there until he passed away. As Americans it was very weird to see what we call a 'housing development' named "The Duke of Wellington's Estates". We went to see the Rollwright Stones/Kings Men, which is a perfect example of something amazing 'in some farmer's field', LOL.

twenty year back walked north sea essex - to source over many weekends -- /// surprisingly good walk full of historic sites pubs cafes and some truly pretty countryside .... // like a year project ... //// also did all of south coast kent to cornwall -- whats odd is how quickly when you leave a town it goes relatively quiet (not london) but smaller towns along route -- surprisinging how much wild area there is -- and as I recall there werent many walkers about .. nice video -- was intending to fill a bottle -- of course the source was a tiny tiny trickle mid summer .. so had a sip and went home ..

I don't agree - there are huge areas with thousands and thousands of trees. I live in south London - very crowded, lots of concrete - and it never ceases to amaze me just how many trees we have in suburban areas, in parks - of which London has hundreds, and in forested areas all around the M25 and beyond. Farmed areas may have fewer trees than at one time, but then there are huge swathes of woodland and protected areas.
@theoztreecrasher2647

Yep, I agree entirely! And "they" should convert some of their derelict factory buildings into gas chambers and (using solid CO2 Dry Ice for environmental reasons) reduce their population to a level that the thus reduced farmland acreage could sustainably support. For an even "greener" outcome, the remains could be "processed" into organic fertilizer to reduce the need for artificial fertilizers thus allowing the shut down of polluting phosphate mines and ammonia and urea plants. Don't you agree? 🤔🙄
