The road to Gurez (Gurais) Valley, Kashmir - a hidden gem at the top of the world!

The ride from Srinagar to Gurez Valley, or Dawar, the first village of the valley takes around 6 hours approximately. It's tarmac till the Razdaan Pass, beyond which the road is somewhat patchy till Dawar. Post Dawar, you see the mighty Habba Khatoon rise up in the distance with its natural spring water. As you ride deeper into the valley, it's mostly off-roading. You're likely to cross 4-5 army checkpoints where you need to prove your identity and share details. The Gurez valley leads Tulail Valley, to the last villages of Chakwali and Kabul Gali. If you've got special "connections", you can get permission to ride on from Kabul Gali to Dras and Kargil as well, which is more or less a dream because of the stringent army restrictions.
