Come join the ride for day 2 of our journey to the 2021 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, riding from Los Angeles to Sturgis, South Dakota and back with a great group of dudes! In this episode, we start out in Williams, Arizona and make our way to Durango, Colorado with some great stops on the way! We get thrown a few curve balls, as the open road always does, but that's all a part of the journey!

Sturgis Rally History
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is a motorcycle rally held annually in Sturgis, South Dakota, and the surrounding Black Hills region of the United States. It began in 1938 by a group of Indian Motorcycle riders and was originally held for stunts and races. Attendance has historically been around 500,000 people, reaching a high of over 700,000 in 2015. The event takes place over 10 days and generates around $800 million in annual revenue.
The Sturgis Rally has been held every year, with exceptions during World War II. For instance, from 1942 to 1944, the event was not held due to gasoline rationing.
Originally the rally was a two-day event.
To serve the needs of future rally attendees, the Buffalo Chip Campground was established outside of town. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally venue first hosted campers in 1982. Over the years, the venue evolved to include vendors, campsites, cabins and stages, becoming one of the biggest entertainment hubs of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
For many years, the rally was a seven-day event starting on a Monday during the first full week of August.
Williams, Arizona
Williams is a city in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, located west of Flagstaff. Its population was 3,023 at the 2010 census. It lies on the routes of Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40. It is also the southern terminus of the Grand Canyon Railway, which takes visitors to Grand Canyon Village. There are numerous inns, motels, restaurants and gas stations catering to the large influx of tourists rather than local residents, especially during the summer and holiday seasons.
Also known as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon", Williams was the last city on Historic Route 66 to be bypassed by Interstate 40. The community, bypassed on October 13, 1984, continues to thrive on tourism. Boasting seven fishing lakes in the area, hiking trails up Bill Williams Mountain and into Sycamore Canyon, an alpine ski area and cross country ski trails, four-seasons weather and an abundance of wildlife, Williams offers unlimited recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.
The Historic Downtown District covers six square blocks. Williams boasts a rich heritage that features the Old West and Route 66, coupled with tourism trends today and the city's heyday years of the '50s and '60s.
Four Corners Monument
The Four Corners Monument marks the quadripoint in the Southwestern United States where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet. It is the only point in the United States shared by four states, leading to the area being named the Four Corners region. The monument also marks the boundary between two semi-autonomous Native American governments, the Navajo Nation, which maintains the monument as a tourist attraction, and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Reservation.
The Strater Hotel
Built in 1887, the historic Strater Hotel (Historic Hotel of America Founding Member) is one of the West's iconic hotels and a prominent downtown Durango, Colorado landmark located two blocks north of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, one hour from Mesa Verde National Park, several hours from the Four Corners Monument, and deep in the heart of the rugged San Juan Mountains and the San Juan Scenic Skyway.

The ride is only a ride. It’s the events of good times and annoying issues that make the story. It’s that mix which allows us to look back upon it with laughter and smiles. Those are the stories that make up a great ride. Thank you gentlemen for the way you include us in those great rides.

As a military guy, I gotta say, we have guys get shot or blown up and we always go back and debrief the events to see what we can learn from its. It'd be really cool if you guys did the same. A lot of it has to do with the way we build our bikes! We get sore and tired after 200 miles on stock bikes with wheelbarrow bars and unsupportive seats but can go for 6,7,800 miles in a day the way we set our bikes up in a way that improves the ergonomics and seating position

Love the ride. Have rolled thru Monument Valley, Four Corners, Durango, Black Cyn, Salida, Independence Pass… never get tired of that area, and one WILL get weather thru there. Bro, 105 is riding too hard, it appears you’re all bunched up, hence seems like that contributed to you guys not all able to maneuver around a trailer on a clear day of riding. Like you said, pay attention, but also leave room between each other, and ride under control. If you have to make up time, get up earlier in the morning. Hate to hear about guys hitting the pavement. @@1962egl Haha that's just the name of the game! The project never really does "finish".. then what do ya know.. new bike! He at least got a good 75,000 miles on the old bike before grabbing something new 👌 We've shot that video a little while back for both of our new bikes, and will be putting it out sometime soon. But you guys do some unsafe stuff too. You lane-share, which is illegal in my State. I support that law. If one of you is affected, the other is as well. Not cool! You should be staggered (formation) on the highway, and obey the min. 2-second rule at all times. Just my 2 cents. Too many riders rode their own way in my HOG club so I bailed out. I'd rather ride solo than have someone cause me to go down. Be safe!

It’s legal in our neck of the woods. Thanks for your comment.

@@2LaneLife I don't know where "our neck of the woods" is, but you might want to double-check your State law(s). I don't know of ANY States that allow lane splitting. When I rode with HOG, I found that only a few, out of hundreds, were aware of too many State laws. It's my opinion that ALL traffickers complete a DMV written and driving test every four or six years. We'd certainly become safer riders.

California allows lane splitting. Stop being a debi downer. Let the dudes ride how they ride.
@stephensmith60
@stephensmith60 2 жыл бұрын
@@tylerlogan8419 Understood, but California doesn't trump other states! If you'd watch this video these guys are not necessarily in California where that crap is allowed! These two don't own the road! If they tried to come into my lane, I'd block them for sure! They're not going to draw me into their accident! You may not want to try it either. There are many, many more out there who feel as I do. You'd lose! You, and them, need to learn to be respectful of others!
