Lack of safety led to a few lifeboats, which only means women and children only.

On the real titanic, there were 2 main crew members put in charge of lifeboats. Lightoller and Murdock. Murdock was in charge of the starboard or right side lifeboats, while lightoller was incharge of the port or left side. Lightoller took the captains instruction as women and children 'only' whilst Murdock took it as what was really said, women and children 'first'. So if there was no more women or children around on lightoller's side of the ship, he would let the lifeboats go with spare seats. On the other hand, Murdock allowed men in when there were no women and children in the area. As a man your survival odds would have been better if you were waiting for a lifeboat on the starboard side.

Yes it is a tragedy, but they were true heroes. Joseph Bell and his engineers stayed inside the boiler and engine rooms keeping the ship above water for as long as possible. At 1:10AM, boiler room 5 coal bunker exploded due to water flooding into it, and the first 2 victims of the Titanic disaster perished when it happened. At 2:17, Joseph Bell and his engineers moved aft to the generator room and kept the lights going on until the end. Even still, survivors reported seeing lights on the ship until the stern was seconds away from plunging. So Joseph probably kept their shit together and kept order in the generator room until they were literally underwater. Remember, that room would not have started to flood until the Titanic had been underwater for more than a minute. So that room would be dry until the water pressure would be too much and the room would have imploded. If the generator room imploded, then those guys wouldn't have felt anything. It would have been an instant death. They wouldn't have suffered and slowly drowned, they would just die on the spot. Their deaths were truly heroic. May all 25 of Titanics engineers rest in peace
