A wonderfully amazing scene here, but what I love most about this scene is how General Hummel was really adamant about having the SEALs surrendering peacefully, he did not want to kill them, even shouting for his men to cease fire, and even after the shootout he showed regret and remorse for it. What I love most about this scene is General Hummel gets focused in screaming “CEASE FIRE” bc he doesn’t want this and it just a happened on the acc of the other marines, at first when I was very young I thought he was a villain but as I got older i realized, he was a hero for his men. Those he had lost. As chaotic as they made it. They kept his morality. This movie is amazing. My favorite by far.

people miss the big picture, on regular basis, when it comes to this scene. there is no such thing as a good soldier or a bad soldier. youre either a soldier or youre not one. the symbolism of running out of the mouse hole into the kill zone as opposed to running out of the danger into a mouse hole is obvious. ive seen things like this often ( none of them involving firearms and dead bodies though, assault and battery with deadly weapon instead). i met some Dutch men couple of days ago, wearing orange hoodies with the name of the country on their back. I couldnt imagine greater shame than being a Dutch soldier and showing off in 2019. people tend to forget too soon and too fast. waving a knife a gun or FS dagger doesnt make you a soldier. its the mental set.

Also on the VHS I had back in the day, one of Michael Biehn's Navy Seals, manages to kill one of Hummel's mercenaries. Tall guy w. blonde/white hair seen when they are setting up their equipment earlier in the film. I think it was the Navy Seal that climbed the showers to shoot, manages to pop a 9mm in his head. It's not on any of the dvd or blu-ray releases for some reason. During the aftermath of the massacre, when Hummel and his men are inspecting the dead, and they find a dying Navy Seal, in the overview shot, you can see that black mercenary w bandana (Pvt. McCoy, Ill take pleasure in gutting you, Boy!'), pulling up a dead Hummel Marine, hanging over the edge w. his upper body, blood downwards the wall towards the floow of the showerroom. In the vhs copy I used to have, there was extended dialouge w. Hummel standing the showerroom as well, where David Morse's character says "We lost one of ours!", and then Hummel says: "I didn't want this!"

Here we have two Honorable men, one is (Anderson) man of Honour following the DUTY for his country and govermont VS the man (Hummel) of Honour for his men who were betrayed by that same govermont, it shows mutual respect from both men toward each others, from both of their points of views what honour is, and it is so sad, both men are tortured in fact, spilled blood in the same mud as Anderson says. What's most sad in this scene for me is the fact that Anderson wont surrender (knowing he will die) and that Hummel is yelling "ceasefire" knowing what he has done ...somethin he never wanted too.

Wow. Very intense scene. I used to LOVE this movie. Very well made for an action movie. Ed Harris is great, and of course Nic Cage and Sean Connery are also amazing.

I still cant believe Ed Harris has never played in a movie as Erwin Rommel. The similarities are striking.

Today, we wanted to take time to remember SEAL Commander Anderson and his fellow team members whom, on the night of June 7th, 1996, were all killed in action while conducting a covert rescue mission in order to save hostages from Alcatraz Prison and secure book signing deals. A week prior, a group of rogue U.S. Marines, enraged by the lack of compensation from the VA, tactically stormed the prison, took hostages and threatened to wipe out the SF bay area with chemical weapons. Having prior combat experience in the Middle East in the 80s, Anderson was put in charge of the rescue op. The team comprised of the finest and slickest hair the Navy could offer. The team inserted in the water under cover of darkness and made it's way towards the drain system of the prison. As planned, the team then made entry into the shower room via the sewage only to be ambushed by the Marines who were waiting from an elevated position after being alerted by their motion sensors. With tensions rising and the Marines demanding the surrender of the team, Anderson decided to defuse the situation by giving a grandiose speech about patriotism, God, country and general orders. Seeing that he did not speak crayon, Anderson began to realize hat his speech was futile. Now, no one is certain about who fired the first shot or who began playing a Hans Zimmer soundtrack, but the entire SEAL team was obliterated by the rifle fire, MG fire and slow motion. In a span of 5 minutes, Anderson and his men lay dead in a pool of blood and seamen. The photo captured here from one of the shoulder cameras, shows Anderson's last stand (along with the improper handling of a pistol). He gave his life for the greater good and for the country he loved. Subsequently, all hostages were freed and all perpetrators were killed by an old Brit and a lab rat who couldn't swim. #remembereveryoneontherock #promqueens www.zerofoxtrot.com

I like it when 2 actors have stand off argument, when you can just feel the intensity, this particular scene's got a nice buildup to it.

This scene man...it`s perfect! The look the major gives to Hummel when Anderson points out the truth and how immediately after the firing begins Hummel shouts: Cease fire! realizing the mistake that it`s unfolding...man, this is too good.

One of Biehn's best lines (not that he has many lines at all) is when he is briefing the SEALs before the mission: "Make no mistake gentlemen, we are in the fight of our lives. Against maybe the greatest batallion commander in the Vietnam war, I shit you not."

I'm french, and even if i often launch american movies DVDs in my language, this was the first one i started to watch in american, to try to get used to the expressions and accents. Very good movie in french, legendary movie in its original version :) Sean Connery were at his best in it, Ed Harris were great (ok, it's usual, with him :D ), N. Cage was fucking good too... Musics, and dialogues, were able to elevate that movie to the highest level... A goddam masterpiece i love since the 1st time i see it.

And you know god damn well I can't give that order", bring tears to my eyes everytime...
