The role of Muslims in the West should be and should have been from day one when the first Muslim emigrants came to the West, to convey the message of the Quran and to INVITE Westerners to the religion of Allah(swt). Unfortunately, the emigration of the first Muslims to the West was for reasons other than Dawah to Allah(swt), so our presence here started on the wrong footing. This is why we today have scholars having a panel discussion about what our role should be. We, as an Ummah in the West, need to be organised and focus on inviting Westerners to the Deen of Allah(swt). Anything other than that would be a failure on our part. We should move away from the methodology of the first Muslim emigrants in the West of just establishing masajids and not doing much to convey the message of the Quran and continue the legacy of Prophet Muhammad(swt).

I used to think like this when I was young, but then I realised that when the first immigrants came, they couldn't speak English and they weren't knowledgeable or skilled, and also suffered severe racism and exclusion, so it's not as simple as some may think, but one thing they did was build masjids which their kids and later generations would use later to learn their deen. It's easy for the young to criticise the elders, but they couldn't do what the elders did in their day now. They left 3rd world countries to improve their life and they didn't abandon their deen even if not considered as practising as today. Nobody travelled for dawah for the last few hundred years

@mokhachoka2918 It's all well and good establishing Masjids, as this is top priority for Muslims wherever they go and for whatever reason, as this falls in line with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh). However, there is more to the Deen than just that. Allah(swt) has commanded us in Surah Ali Imran, Ayah 104: "Let there be a group among you who call ˹others˺ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil-it is they who will be successful." This command requires us to do other than just establish masjids, but it in fact commands us to be organised and INVITE people to our Deen. The command is for a group to do it, not all of us. To do this will require unity in purpose as an Ummah, and we will have to do away with divisions among us.

Dawah is an art. We need to clear up our own misconceptions that run rife within our communities and we need to behave in a manner that shows the west Muslims are a clean, calm, patient and advanced people (which I don't see much). Unfortunately we're a long way from that and I feel the more people move towards it, even more people move away from it. 2 steps forward and 4 steps back, may Allah guide us... If we fix ourselves, people will be more likely to listen to our Dawah InshāAllāh. It's gotta start with our youth too

we need to grow a stronger and more united muslim ummah as well as stronger family units that are truly based upon Quran and Sunnah. Unfortunately the problem we face today is that our community's are divided, our children and families nucleas' are being infiltrated and destroyed by unlimited exposure to social media and technologies, culture sometimes takes precedents in our mosques where they fail to give rights to the women of the ummah for a clean and safe place to pray in the mosque people are dispersed, scattered and divided. We need leaders with voices of justice and help lead a future of imaan, a future built upon the Quran and Sunnah. The ummah needs more unity, the young, old, men, women and children altogether. It is not based on hierachy or culture or sect, finance or status etc. May Allah swt make it possible for us to build strong united Muslim Ummah based truly on the law of Quran and the conduct and traits of our beautiful Prophet Muhammad saw. :-) Ameen Do not lose hope, you can make a difference and make a positive impact in your family homes, community and own life, just follow Allah swt and His Messenger P SAW insha'Allah.
