In this piece from the summer of 1978, News 8's Judy Elfenbein traveled to Anaheim Stadium to catch the chaos before The Rolling Stones hit the stage. Security was out in full force catching people for ticket snatching, bringing in drinks and even possession of $500 worth of “what appeared to be cocaine.”
Some Girls album tour.

I was there, too. I snaked my way to in front of the stage. The guy next to me smuggled his camera & some joints in a loaf of bread. Everybody shared their dope, no one worried about getting sick. It was hot in SoCal. Mick Jagger took his shirt off & I counted his ribs & I was amazed that he was so pale. Peter Tosh was the lead-in. I didn't see anyone fighting, but it was so crowded in front of the stage that our bodies all smashed togethet held up a unconscious guy.

I was working security right in front of the stage below Ron Wood and at the bow when we were pulling fans over being crushed, saved two of my HS classmates. Was up there for the famous Mick I want all your shoes incident. Plus had to jump the outfield fence when the police fence in front of the wall collapsed.

This was the show that someone threw their flip flop at the stage and then Mick said he wanted everyone’s fucking shoes, next thing you know 1000’s of Sandals and shoes were flying at the stage. I was lucky enough to be towards the front and after the show there was piles knee deep of shoes up front. Great show with Peter Tosh and the Outlaws!

Made a special trip all the way from Tacoma, WA, with my then 15-month-old baby, not at concert of course. I was 23. Man, was it scorching that day!. The water fountains were quite busy. Memorable, first of 5 Stones concerts, last I attended was right back in Anaheim in 2005. Lived close enough to walk.

This is the concert I have been looking for..... I was there and would give just about anything to see it in it's entirely again. Yes the shoes on the stage I thought trippin... And yes I was.. Scored before I got in. Great acid in those days (orange sunshine) . Keith later mentioned that is was one of the most memorable concerts he remembered. So many people throwing their shoes up to the stage and Mick dodging and weaving, and kicking shoes off the stage (with no shoes on my feet Beast of Burden). Then so many people going home shoeless. The Great Shoe Concert.

Saw them in Chicago a couple week’s earlier…trippin just like you, made the 8 hours between bum rushing the gate and the Stones taking the stage seem like an hour…great memory!

A freaking amazing concert. Especially for O.C. Who cared about anything then, other than The Stones! Although, yes, we used to be able to smoke weed. And now that's it's "legal", we can't smoke it at concerts anymore. WTF?

I had eight joints rolled up and hidden inside my sock. They never checked and we smoked every one of them with the stadium staff nearby. No one ever got arrested at any show I was at for pot. We had about sixteen people going in two groups. The tickets were $12.50 for The Stones, The Outlaws, Peter Tosh, and Etta James. We sat on the left field side as I knew what side got the shade from previous shows. Left field, the shade came quickly, right field, you baked all day. My first Stones show and a great one!

Getting arrested for smoking weed was crazy then and still is. SO much less harmful than booze. Stupid laws.

I was there, and yeah....they did NOT get everyone's pot. Thankfully, all of the shoes missed my head down on the field!

My grandfather actually sponsored a ZZ top's concert At Anaheim Stadium himself a couple years prior apparently he knew a guy who was the main head of the stadium operations And he needed a favor My grandfather was the owner of shamrock lighting The biggest supplier of light fixtures in the area at the time So he was pretty wealthy The 70s were a different time a time where If you were a part of the local elks club and bullshitted with people And you had money. Next thing you know your sponsoring giant events at the big stadium

I was there also. I got my tickets from the lawyer Marvin Mitchelson.(I was working at an attorney service "SCAS" at the time) the tickets were passed on to me and my brother so we can find a chance to serve a subpoena to Mick (Ridiculous!) But at least I got a chance to see them. Boy was it a hot day....yeesh. Also on the bill was Peter Tosh and also a band called 'The Outlaws.' Oh, by the way, my female boss Leslie caught Mick at the "Westwood Marquis" later that night and served him the divorce subpoena while he was leaving the hotel to get into his limousine. Not as fun for her as my day was. P.S I was distracted watching the Stones by Sylvester Stallone constantly peeking out from backstage watching them play.

LOL was at this concert with my girlfriend. Drove down from L.A. the night before, hit up some old friends and bought a gram of coke. I don't remember what I paid. Drove to the stadium that night and camped out in the parking lot. Heading in I didn't want to get busted so genius me put the paper pouch that had the blow in my shoe under my foot. By the time we got in and on the infiield, it was so hot that when I pulled the pouch out of my shoe the coke had melted. LOL.
