I have just seen this and I thought you only did the Beatles! Back in November 1969 One Stop Records in South Moulton Street London had The Promotional Album in the window. I was awaiting the release of Let It Bleed and thought this was it. I was disappointed to find it was a compilation album and since I already had every track on it apart from Love In Vain I decided not to pay the £4 they were asking for a copy. My wages at the time was £8 per week so £4 was a lot. Of course I have kicked myself ever since but I have to confess that if I had bought it I would never have parted with it! Thanks for clearing up the myth about Love In Vain being a different version, an early acetate of Let it Bleed with different track listings came to light a year ago or so and the version of Love In Vain was the same on that so I thought it unlikely that it would be any different on the Promotional Album. Perhaps wishful thinking if you had just spent £9000 on a copy! Thanks again for a great video.

I liked the song that the Beatles gave to the Rolling Stones because I wanna be your man and I think they did that first then the Beatles recorded it afterwards from the with the Beatles album. I only heard a clip of the Rolling Stones version of I want to be your man on the Beatles anthology documentary which is great because you can hear the two different versions of that particular song.

Hi there! What a great video. I totally agree with you on the pressing numbers of the UK vs USA copies. The UK version is almost impossible to find. There is actually an even rarer version than the UK signed copy. That is the UK unboxed Decca white label copy! I have never actually seen another copy. That makes the "regular" RSM1 look easy. I know of at least fifteen people with a boxed Decca blue label one personally and I have three copies myself. I also have four US RSD1 copies :-)

This is wild!! I have yet to hear of this release until now, and I've known a few diehard Stones collectors over the decades. I can't imagine a stereo pressing of this album, as most of the stations would be AM that would be the target for programing on this. I don't know how well FM stereo was doing in the UK. It was very much of a "wait and see" prospect here in the US. I recall mono versions of the Stones being my favorite and packing a lot more "punch" than their stereo counterparts. This should be a treat for the ears.

As mentioned earlier by someone there was also an Australian version of this too....well , the cover is the same. I’ve got the Australian version and I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I found it not realising there was an Aussie third version ..oh well. The Aussie version I have is on the red Decca label but stereophonic labels and I think the track listing doesn’t match either U.K. nor USA (?) I think in the grand scheme of things the Aussie version is more of an “itch scratcher” to put into your collection and pretend to yourself that you have something more important than it really is without spending the mega-bucks needed

Hey Andrew, could you please tell me what is that green box or book that is in the back, on top of the other Beatles Box Sets? It looks like it says The Beatles For Sale on Parlaphone Records. In terms of Big Hits - High Tide and Green Grass, it would have been a bad idea for Decca to release a UK Version in March 1966, as the UK Version of Aftermath was released on April 15 1966, so why they waited for Big Hits to be released pn November 4 1966 is odd, for one of two reasons. One, why not release it at the time as The Stones were touring the UK in September/October 1966 and Two their next studio album, Between The Buttons would be released on 20 January 1967. It would have been like Parlophone/EMI releasing A Collection of Beatles Oldies within weeks of Revolver. Although for The Beach Boys, Capitol did that in the USA with The Best of the Beach Boys released seven weeks after Pet Sounds. Obviously all three Rolling Stones albums mentioned has different UK (Decca) and USA (London) versions, and a week after the UK Release of Between The Buttons, The Beatles signed their new nine year contract which enforced Capitol to take The Beatles UK Albums without them being altered in any way, which with the success of Sgt. Pepper, allowed many of the other British acts, including The Stones to demand the same for their future albums.

I hope people know there were two times in the 80's that a few hundred counterfeit copies were made of this record too. Most people that get Ebay copies don't even know the difference between the fake and original. If you hold it up to the light and can see through the record it is a newer bootleg copy, And to make it more confusing, there were more sleeves than records of the promotional copy, so around 100 to 200 bootlegs used unused original sleeves. Most people don't even care if they got an original copy or fake. Kenny Everett is a confusing guy to get records from too. Just like John Lennon, he collected bootlegs too. So having a copy of any of his records is 'namesake' because I think he wrote his name on a lot of records in his collection that he got while he was a DJ and he wrote his name on a lot of the bootleg records in his collection. I think I got like $600 in 1983 for a Kenny Everett owned copy of Beatles Kum Back. It'd probably go for much more today, but a Kenny Everett James Taylor promo LP only got like $30. LOL, Collect what you enjoy. Heck with other people's set 'values' when we croke, the stuff can't go with us anyway.

Do you have a source about the information regarding extra original sleeves and the number of bootleg issues in the 80s thanks
@BioFactory12 жыл бұрын
@@BillyWyman I used to know a guy in Philadelphia who had a record store that had a few of two different fake /bootleg versions. I asked which was real, he said neither, one was a mid 80s counterfeit in an extra printed original jacket and the other was a bootleg fake from around 1987or so. Then he showed me holding them up to the light you could see they were on a see through very dark brownish purple vinyl.
@BillyWyman2 жыл бұрын
@@BioFactory1 thanks I ask because I have had a few originals over the years, you can tell it’s authentic by the matrix numbers in the run off wax, and I have a bootleg with a bogus matrix number, but the vinyl doesn’t appear to be see through. But I never heard about extra original sleeves, I’ll compare the real and fake I have to see. In addition, The Promotional Album will be a featured piece i have on an upcoming National Tv collectors show that I’m filming in a few weeks for 2023 and I’d like as much info as possible
@BioFactory12 жыл бұрын
@@BillyWyman if it isn't see thru it could be like a later 90s made one? Not sure. They tried to get more clever with matrix/run out grooves when they competed with bootleg cd's and collectors that tried to find the most authentic looking things.

That was very well done Andrew I loved it. I love learning about the history of rare albums that are hard to find being he’s a collector a big one as I am voice having a music collector ever since I was a kid. There is a great compilation album called 40 licks by the Rolling Stones which is very interesting, because it has all the hits +4 new songs I think it has 36 hits on there. I thought and Brian Jones that a fantastic job on the Beatles song you know my name look up the number where the other Beatles thought that he brought in the guitar but it wasn’t it was the saxophone and that fits really well and that holes in the song which I love. You know my name look up the number interestingly enough I think Westy decide to P in the UK, but in the US it was like a bee and for you blue.

Always entertaining, Andrew, so I forgive the treason of a Stones vid as opposed to Beatles. No, actually, this is kinda fascinating, as I'm somewhat of a Stones collector, too, but I've never heard of this lp. And actually, I think that's a pretty humdrum track selection--although I can't imagine what stereo/mono differences might exist between the two versions. I mean, virtually all the tracks only existed in mono. Could you comment on that?

@@TheTigersfan20 Yes you do, did you ever oop mono or stereo Rolling Stones songs though. Not all 'stereo' is actually stereo and much of the mono has frequencies and minor echo at times not really in mono.
