I was very fortunate to witness the full line-up in Zurich including Mick Taylor on midnight rambler and of course Bobby Keys when I was 16 in 2014. I was in the midst of the tongue-shaped stage bit so I saw the actual band in front & around me. It was definitely one of my most memorable concerts of my life and everyone killed it on the performance.

There is apparently a bootleg from the Boston 72 concert but I have not heard it, an audience recording. Sympathy was replaced with You Cant Always Get for the 72/73 tours. Both songs were included in 75, the first Woody tour, which is considerably good, yet cannot compare to the genius dymamic between Taylor and Richards; tbe brilliant, 2nd solo of Sympathy, the cosmic climax as heard on Ya sYa s Out, is Keith, not Mick Taylor; the film Gimme Shelter demonstrates this, and how superb Keith was as a LEAD guitarist as well, Keith also taking the solo on Bye Bye Johnny B Goode in 72, etc. Why Ron Wood would claim he is the "better guitar player" than either Keith or Taylor defies sense, except as an overcompensation-mania for the obvious. But Woody does a respectable job on slide guitar, and played damn well on the 75 US and 76 Euro tours on songs like All Down, Hey Negrita, etc. Alas every Stones show from 1963 through 1978 should have been filmed and recorded for the improvement of higher culture. Jimi loved them, and wrote Dolly Dagger when his gal Devon saddled up on Jagger after the 1969 NYC shows, and the 70 Stones Euro tour they powered through, lugging the trauma of losing their great friend whom tbey had helped--along with The Beatles, Cream, The Who--make into a star from London; "we found him and he was ours!" declared Mick, America being too hung up from a pyramid of neurosis to accept the greatest ever guitar genius--as proved by a vile NY judge awarding a con man music producer a one million dollar judgement for Jimi's breaking of a one dollar contract, which for one stinking dollar bound him FOR 5 years, a de facto construction of slavery were the contract valid even more than a single hour. Jimi used the dollar to buy a sandwich, having not eaten in 2 days according to a girlfriend, Fayne. Slavery did not end in 1865, and was equal opportunity thanks to the open minde, murderous avarice of all too many music "businessmen." The governement enforcing these contracts was ipso facto, knowingly, enforcing slavery, as when the arch neshek master Allen Klein, a semite contemptuous of all outside his tribe and nearly all within it, declared by his contracts that the Rolling Stones were not entitled to one dime off their music, that he would pay them, at whim, a tiny percentile, as if by philanthropy but never by legal or even moral compulsion. Slave morality as master makes for glistening, endless buckets of blood: one would think Mr Klein himself wrote and performed the music. His perfected greed could have been performed by any automaton, or any of the millions with the "talent" of defrauding, but he and other anal retentive sadist neurotics ( which sadly includes Senators and other civic leaders pretending to decency) make the talent of thuggery and defrauding more valuable than songwriting, which makes America, or so much of modern ideology heir to Carthage, NOT Athens or Alexandria. That goverments to this day, either via judiciary, or legislature make or uphold such laws against musicians, artists, writers, et al., is grounds alone for revolution without mercy. No entity human or otherwise (as if these creatures qualify as human) is entitled to 100% or even half the $ from labor or earnings of another person, no matter how glorified the parasitism may be.

He stole it all from Keith Richards as the studio track for this song displays. Keith played all of the guitar, including bass! on the actual studio version of the song. Taylor was just a hired gun and a replacement until they could find somebody else who had his own ideas about playing guitar, and wasn't just a blues man extraordinaries, or a living copy of Keith Richards. Ron Woods wasn't much better at find his own way or niche in the 'Stones. It has always been Mick and Keith's band. The rest of the people are just chauffeurs for them.

Unfortunate that Taylor couldn't make it work with the Stones, and that Rod Stewart felt the need to move on from the Faces. Such is life.

The Stones were in profound grief from the death of Hendrix the preceding Friday the 18th. In spite of the tragedy or likely because of it, they delivered a powerful show which on songs like this edged into the sublime.

Where do you get your data? They played SFTD in 1970, They played it once that I know in 1971 and again in 1975 and 1976 in selected venues (the ones that included the lotus shaped stage).

Kleermaker - hello. I have to find the real ( actual ) set lists in correct playing order ( as played in the show, not on album releases or bootlegs ) of both shows at MSG 1969 ( from which the majority of Get Yer Ya Ya's Out was pulled ) and the Brussels 1973 first show. Would you direct me to that info please. Thank you

Nowhere near as good as the Ya Yas version. There are some nice variations in Jagger's vocals and Keith does some nice things with the rhythm under the second solo. Keith's solo has some nice phrasing but it's meandering and has no real direction. Taylor comes in at around 5 minutes and adds some quality, but it's a little rough.

Agree, the guitars sound a little clunky, like they could have used a bit more OD. Audio quality notwithstanding…

Yeah you're right about that but I'm still right about the real audio would be great to have the real audio or at least attempt to make the vidoe look in synch. Here, keith's playing his obvious lead with a shot of Taylor and that's what I was referring too.

I’m sure it’s Mick who plays the novel hammer-on rhythm part in the lower register though. It’s a great part and adds a lot to the overall groove.
