That’s Rocky Dzidzornu on percussion and Nicky Hopkins on piano. This was a brand new song at the time of this performance (11 December 1968), the album that it was included on (“Beggars Banquet”) had just been released a few days earlier. It’s now considered one of their most classic songs.

oh man. the stones have, in my opinion, a string of their best albums beginning with '67s Beggar's Banquet, then Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, and Goat's Head Soup in '73 that are all solid work. this is after their more mid-60s psychedelic vibe when they got back to the roots of rock and re-embraced the sounds of american country and blues.

I balked at the ticket price ,£10.00 (!) but went anyway.. I was well impressed with the musicianship and energy and understood what the fuss was all about that day..Saw them again 31 years later in 2013 when I was working at Glastonbury...I had binoculars on the stage and Keith hardly played a note, Ronnie Wood doing all the heavy lifting..but in those 31 years ,I've lost a lot of that energy too I guess!
