Not much to really add other than the fact that Mick Taylor was one of the most melodic and fluid leads of his time. His playing here also brings out the best in the sidemen, notably Nicky Hopkins on keys. As Taylor flies for three glorious minutes, Hopkins’ playing grows more excitingly as he's swept up in the improvisations. The guitar solo was recorded live in one take with no punch-ins to repair. Interestingly, the reggae vibe you might be hearing was a Latin influence that Taylor had helped bring after the band played in Brazil.

One of my favorite RS tracks for sure. Iconic guitar soloing - a high point of Mick Taylor's career, and arguably, marks the end of the golden era of the Rolling Stones. He doesn't just play riffs, but rather builds up an atmosphere, a mood. This is what I call "lyrical" playing. Nicky Hopkins' piano on this track is great too. Other memorable leads for the Rolling Stones: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?", "Sway", "Moonlight Mile", "Winter" and "Shine a Light". Mick Taylor was an alumnus of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, following Eric Clapton and Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) as the group's lead guitarist, before joining the Rolling Stones. It was widely reported that the main reason for Taylor's departure from the RS was due to Jagger and Richards refusing to share songwriting credits with Taylor, even though Taylor felt he made significant contributions to the development of various songs. He did receive credit for co-writing "Ventilator Blues" with Jagger and Richards (Taylor wrote the song's riff although it was played on record by Richards, and Taylor plays lead guitar on the track). Also check out Taylor's playing on The Bluesbreakers' "Oh Pretty Woman": kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4nZlGCBr9Ochq8 And his backing of Carla Olsen on songs like "Within an Ace": kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3rdlIhplrp6n9E

❤ I was 12 years old I suppose in 1965❤ and I had one LP that means long playing record which was entitled high tide in green grass Rolling Stones Greatest Hits and I had 145 by The Byrds entitled turn turn turn❤ and on the flip side was an 8 minute song which the local radio stations dubbed a drug song so they would not play it which was entitled 8 Miles High❤ and then while in my second year at St Lawrence University in Canton New York on a hockey scholarship❤ I bought the album It's Only Rock and Roll But I Like It by The Rolling stones. Time waits for no one❤ is Iconic to say the least and from all that I've read I'm not alone in my assertions that it is probably one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful song aside from aside from as tears go by or Angie, which says a lot and I'm grateful that you two are discovering one of the most beautiful songs to be that is and to many many others ever put on vinyl❤❤❤❤❤

@@Mike-gn4un Absolutely they are. Great albums both of them. And both better than the album that "Time Waits For No One" is from (which is still a very good album), but I'm just taking that song in isolation. In my opinion there isn't a single song they've written and produced since that matches it.

This was around the period when the Stones were recording in Jamaica. The album right after this,,,, Goat Head Soup was mostly recorded in Jamaica. It was when Mick was carousing with Bianca whom was from a Caribbean island close to Jamaica. They were hitting the clubs in Kingston and other islands and Mick really got the Caribbean sound in his ear. "Working So Hard" is a reggae song and many of the songs on Goats Head have Jamaican musicians .

IMO, The Stones were on a steady decline by this point. They set the bar so high though that there were still lots of great songs, this included, for some years to come. Smoother and more subtle than what non-stones fans might expect. I love Mick Taylor's tasteful solo on this too. I believe that these guys had far more influence in the music I like than those scouse chancers. Nice selection Armando and good reaction.

“Time Is On My Side” is a cover that they did early in their career. I think it’s from 1964, when Brian Jones was in the band. This one is from 1974, when Mick Taylor was a member. And it’s an original song from them.
