They did, & still do, what they’re told to do. Everything in the music business is orchestrated (by business geniuses). Most of today’s heavy metal & rap music is packaged & sold to make kids feel tough just like “alternative music” exploits teenage angst. None of it is by chance or accident and it’s designed by old white men. Thats why you never hear any musician 💩 on record executives despite them keeping a huge chunk of their earnings. As powerful as guys like JayZ & Diddy are they’re still at least 2 rungs from the top.

You're right, I love the bass here too! I actually never noticed the difference to the studio version, because I mainly listen to this live version (it's perfect in my opinion, the only thing missing is the choir). The bass in the studio version is really different, here it's better in my opinion. More mature, interesting and groovy. Hats off to Taylor for his ideas, but Wyman did it better :)

The Taylor Rules: 1. Always in tune and time; 2. Never overplays; 3. Has truly epic speed chops--his technique is so pure that one doesn't realize how fast he can play. Neither Page nor Clapton can match his flawlessness at pace. Beck is close, but Taylor's superior gift is that he can raise a song to brilliance as the player. Some illustrations on this version of TD--the solo is short and simple. No need to gild the lily on one of the great tunes in the rock cannon. And listen to what he does on rhythm between about 2:57 and 3:18. Brilliant. And, by the way, this is live.

... it's not rhythm, but lead that MT's playing, at least at the outset starting at 2:57... and, as subtle and brilliant as it may be, Keith is pissed -- at 3:09 you can see him yell across the stage; "Stop playing! Stop f'n playing!" ...

The song itself is just so unbelievably well written, from the first riff which just rolls like an intense wave of bliss right into you, through the gorgeous licks, Mick's celebratory vocals and OF COURSE Mick T's beautifully fluid solos throughout, right up until the last second with the 'call and response' coda that is just perfection. AND just the way the Stones play this live here.... It's just what MUSIC is about.

Snowblind While I do think that this show is the best they sounded as a band. I do love their punk takes from that ‘78 show too. I love “Respectable” with a hoarse Keith singing backup.

I love how they do not try and copy their records. They play like a garage band back then, the best in the world but still, not like the best Stones cover band

The best thing about these concerts from 1972 are besides Taylor the rythm playing by Keith which I think is perhaps I've heard him play. Also Mick's showmanship and the sheer interaction between the Glimmer Twins. I mean on 'Happy' there's such a wonderful energy when they sing together.
