One of the guys hanging out on the stoop with Mick Jagger is the late Peter Tosh who played lead guitar in The Wailers along side Bob Marley. He's the guy Keith Richards shakes hands with when he shows up. The sax solo in this song is played by jazz great Sonny Rollins.

@@Unlitedsoul Don’t think Tosh had anything to do with this track which was cut years before in 1972 with Mick Taylor. The musicians listed on it were the Stones 1972 period plus Nicky Hopkins on piano. Sonny Rollins overdubbed the sax and they guy you mentioned added percussion. The sax and piano were added just before the 1981 release. Tosh was not in the Stones orbit in 1972. It was years later when he signed to their label.

@@flyingburritobro68 November 25, 1972, the Stones entered Dynamic Sound Studios in Kingston, Jamaica to begin work on Goats Head Soup. They would spend 3 weeks on and off recording in Jamaica before going to LA. This was where they recorded the initial work for Waiting on a Friend (and several other songs). Marley and Tosh were also in Dynamic Sounds until early December completing the final mix of Catch a Fire so that Marley could rush it back to London and Columbia Records for distribution. Tosh, as well as Bunny Wailer, remained in Jamaica until a legal dispute around the album involving Island Records and Columbia was resolved and the band was cleared to tour in April 1973. Keith Richards stated that quite a few Jamaican musicians were brought into the studio... including "that guy across the hall". Mick would state at the time of signing Tosh to the Rolling Stones label in 1978 that it was working with him on those sessions that caught their eyes and made them all wish to work with both him and Bob Marley in the future. So, maybe Tosh didn't work on the song... or the album years later, but Mick and Keith allude to his being there.

The video, shot in July 1981, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg (who also directed their 1968 special ), became very popular on MTV. Matching the song's lyrics, Jagger is seen waiting for Keith Richards in the doorway of an apartment block. The building, at 96-98 St. Mark's Place in Manhattan, is notable for having also appeared on the cover of Led Zeppelin's 1975 album . The two then walk down the street and enter the St. Mark's Bar & Grill where the other three band members are already drinking. Ronnie Wood appears in the video, although he was not a musician on the original recording. Jagger sings the song to Richards and the video concludes with the band setting up for a gig at the back of the bar, largely ignored by the other patrons.

In West Los Angeles you still see that a lot. I've seen lots of people just hanging out or walking around. Dustin Hoffman, Alanis Morissette .. to many to mention. Just walking by you on the street or sitting someplace. I used to see Glenn Frey all the time at the same Pizza Place and same Car Wash often in Santa Monica on Wilshire, small talk each time I saw him, really nice, easygoing guy (RIP).

Hilarious that reggae artist Peter Tosh (dude bottom of steps) sneezes... Stones notoriously doing videos in 1 take... Mick says something (probably bless you) then covers mouth chuckling, realizing he’s supposed to only be saying the lyrics. Super reaction Jamel. Mick and Keith are like an old married couple so the song and video work perfectly as a metaphor for their relationship.

One of the most memorable days of my life was when I saw the Stones at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in the early 80s. Opening for the Stones were the J. Geils Band, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and Prince. I skipped school that day, and rode my bicycle to the venue. Good times.

I was watching from the very top row of the Coliseum, at the complete opposite side of the stadium. Audiences weren't very open-minded back then. @Scott Morschhauser, was Prince on the bill in Buffalo? I think that third opening band was interchangeable at different cities. @Antoinette Lopes, it was awesome! @Unlitedsoul, it was an amazing show!

Isn't that the truth! Hang Fire comes to mind. Do not recall If One Hit to the Body is one of the tracks on that album but an underrated 80s gem from the Stones with an interesting video since apparently Mick and Keith really weren't getting along at that point.

Please listen and react to Bruce Springsteen “Jungleland” original studio version with tremendous storytelling lyrics and emotion. With incredible music...IMO best rock song ever. Then later on check out a live performance from the 70s.
