The teeth in the cogwheels would likely have been made from hornbeam, as it's also used in wind and water mills as well as cart axles.

It´s mellowed nicely; when Time Team first built it there was a lot of stark new wood and iron. It was impressive to see how the archaeologists managed to piece together the design from a few pieces of timber and some heavily-rusted scraps of iron. Now it looks superb, as if it were hundreds of years old : )

This existed in Nubia before Rome invaded Egypt. It had bigger wheeled then this contraption.

@Carlo Canti No. Chinese knew how to use differential gears before Europeans. The knew water wheels for a long time and had gears in them. The water wheel turns out to be present in North Africa before it was Middle Eastern. Egypt and other cities below had it before Mesopotamia. Wikipedia is not always right.

@Carlo Canti No. Greeks did not invent anything. Stop using racist false history. No sources claim that. Eurocentrism has not been proven. China had separate civilization s but did many things before Europe.

@Carlo Canti Greeks have the least inventions compared to India, China and Mesopotamia! Waterwheels were present in India before Indian Bactria. In other words ruled by Greeks.

@Carlo Canti Fucking idiot. Trying to argue with me abd claim Greeks invented everything. All of the inventions you listed were not made by Greeks fool. I hope this nonsense is not a copy paste from Stormfront! You should be ashamed by your beliefs! You will be shattered by the truth about your race!

@Carlo Canti Achimedes claw was not invented by him. It was made by Assyrians for construction. Achemides attributes few things to himself. The rest he does is hard to take his word for.

And the Indians stole the technology from Alexander the Great when he conquered near their borders. The use of simple physics machines originated from Greeks.
