Great video. So nice to see the contrast between where the Romanov's once stood and were photographed back then and how the exact locations look now. Thank you for uploading this

Indeed, it's hypnotic. I made sure , for the most part, the last image we see of the photos is of the family...restored to the spot. Not simply the spot today. When each image is left, it's of them as they were.

I’ve always enjoyed visiting present day sites which have a connection to historical figures, particularly when there is photographic evidence for the connection. Obviously, the Romanovs lived and time and space. I like to think that perhaps in a different dimension they still occupy these spaces.

Thank you! How did your garden handle the cold snap?
@IamHelenKeller3 жыл бұрын
@@blessOTMAI Unfortunately, not very well. I think about half of the trees and shrubs were killed or severely injured. All the leaves were killed on my bamboo grove, and maybe the stems...so it doesn't look very attractive. but bamboo is weedy. new shoots are starting to grow up from the ground. I suppose it will be a couple of years or more before my yard looks okay again. suddenly my bathroom ceiling started leaking and I discovered that a squirrel had chewed a hole in my roof. But the roofer patched my roof today. A new roof would probably be better...but roofs are so expensive these days. :( Oh well, if it's not one thing it's another, I suppose. Now we're entering tornado season. LOl. :) Have you been doing any painting lately?
@blessOTMA3 жыл бұрын
@@IamHelenKeller Sorry to hear that about the garden, hopefully it was a once in a 100 years event! Glad you got your roof patched, really whatever it takes to reasonably get though the day is to be valued. I'm for patches! 😊 Funny you should ask about painting, I'm thinking of several Romanov ones( it has been nearly 6 years since I had a brush in my hand! ) Alas, not Alix as of yet, but at least I have photos of her in mind . The ideas I'm working on are about 10 years old. Life is short, but art is long! Warm wishes and dry bathrooms my friend! 😀

Thank you! Perhaps I will do another. But I would first have to ask the permission of the Russian photographer who took the photos of the places today, Ilya Grigoryev. You see, I was so driven to make this video, I did not dare to ask him, I just went ahead....while giving him the credit of course. But if I make another video, asking him and risking disapproval could not be avoided. Look in the description box to find a link to his web site. A truly poignant video. It is over 100 years since the Imperial Family walked these paths; to visit these places and to stand in, and to share, the same spaces that HIM the Tsar and his Family once occupied only becomes a more poignant and personal connection when you see the photographs. Thank you for uploading this video and giving new life to these ghosts from the past.

Thank you, your comment means a lot. When I blended a then and now photo on the video program, just to see how it went, the effect was such that I just had to make a whole video. It seems to ease the legendary aspect of their tragic story. Because the photos makes it clear; they were here, real and they stood in these places one can be in today. The photos and the work of finding the places today was done by the photographer, Ilya Grigoryev. All credit goes to him! Thanks again!

This is exquisitely done but I find a lot of comments expressing a gushing joy over a family that hardly anyone ever saw. I’ve spent years reading about them and agonising over their deaths and it should never have happened but to a large extent the Tzar’s downfall was because of his belief that only he had a divine right to rule. This was a folly and his poor decision making led to the tragic consequences. You can not isolate yourself in luxury while your people starve in poverty. They could have left with amazing financial security and lived a very comfortable life with the prospect of one day returning to the throne. George V and the British government could have intervened but to save their own image declined. The Royals might be related but will burn and destroy anything that threatens their grip.

The one with the church is at Alexander Palace, the rest in the video are from Livadia . Mr. Grigoryev has spent the last two years looking for places to document in the Crimea. I hope when AP opens, he travels there. There are many more examples of the then and now on his web site, link in the description. It's a terrific site.
