Wow. You have to be nearly crazy to venture down that hole and drill and dig for opal. But it certainly was a exciting video of your find. I have two black opals from Lightning Ridge that I inherited. Set in jewelry. Beautiful stones.

That material is quite precarious. Opals form is such a delicate environment. Essentially being silica,water,mud and sometimes other "impurities". Being underground in those fields,as much as I wish to be,it still makes me heart pound. Potch also makes up at least 80ish % of the opals found in these mines,which is why fiery opal is highly valued...And I love both. The labor,the intensity,the risk,the not so rare moments of serious excitement. I would be squealing slightly if was in that situation,but also yes..running for meh life like they did.
