When the modern day Great Central Railway first opened the extension to Leicester it was operated by a steam 'Push Pull' shuttle and occasionally by DMU. To reach Leicester passengers had to cross the platform at Rothley making it a very busy place. It was a short lived sight as Leicester North station with its platform and run round loop opened a few months later.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the Rothley to Leicester shuttle train here is some glorious archive footage, from the lenses of Roy Emmett and Brian Healey.
We remember those pictured who are sadly no longer with us but helped make the railway way it is today.
