Wow the Duke of Kent, cousin of the late Queen and uncle of the current King is still handling royal engagements. A poignant recollection that to the right of him was where the late queen was standing last year. He is the final link to the Era of King George V when he was both a royal and was alive in 1935. To think that he has been duke for almost 81 years, 6 years longer than the King was borned.

In some cultures, like ours in the philippines, the duke of kent will be called as the King’s uncle. But yeah, i understand that in british custom, it will be 1st cousin once removed.l

More specifically it is first cousin once removed since the Duke of Kent is one generation above the King. Strictly cousins are only reserved for the King's mother and her generation who are grandchildren of the King's great-grandfather, or the children of the King's grandfather and grand aunts and uncles.

@@bluebellflora2510 There are different forms of cousins depending on which sphere of the world you are in, and under those western definitions, he does have 'cousins' who are working royals. I already explained the western side above and there's more in depth ones like second cousins, or first cousins once removed which are what the King and Duke are, first cousins meaning QEII and Edward of Kent, once removed denoting the generation gap/child of his first cousin. In the eastern side, the duke can be called the King's Uncle considering it was from his mother's generation and basically anyone who is of similar hierarchical treeline based on blood, marriage or birth, are automatically treated as uncles or aunties.

Wasn't it Princess Alexandra who was held up by Edward an Sophie on the Coronation pictures? Due to her age and physical strength she might have skipped balcony/event. And I think they introduced the rule of only working royals on the balcony a while ago, so maybe Louise and her brother only partake in some special chosen events with there parents now.

Ich war begeistert als ich sah wie die kinder und auch die erwachsenen über ihre eindrücke sprachen. Besonders die 3 kinder zeigten reges interesse was da vor sich ging. Von allen 3 und schön wie die eltern erklärten. Was ein paar monate ausmachen für die entwicklung eines kindes. Man merkt es ja nur bei fremden. Bei den eigenen nicht so sehr. Schade. The royal family got criticised a lot for the crowded balcony a few years ago, too many royals that the taxpayers have to fund (from the public's and the press' point of view). As you said, they introduced a rule of only working royals on the balcony to combat the ciritcism and negative press. Slimming down the monarchy has been a very common throughout all European monarchies and is viewed as necessary to "survive" by many

Nice to see them, but to be honest, the camera angles and lack of commentary disgusted me. Instead of hearing the Band in Sync with each other, I heard bridles and scabbards jangling and parts of the band moreso than others. Last years was awful also, the Irish Guards were sloppy. This year the troops were great, but the lack of information and camera angles meant that this would be the LAST Trooping I'll watch...and I watch from Australia. I even changed to SKYNEWS which followed the procession down the mall, instead this channel concentrated on dismantling everything. POOR SHOW. The dedication of the Troops in their practicing, drill, precision, spoilt for those who weren't there. Get this back where it should be...fully commentated, multiple camera angles and on the BBC KZbin channel for everyone to watch.
