That place made people sick just looking at it . Horrible building.

It was by a leap and bound the worst collection of buildings in the city. The staff were amazing but it was bad from the opening in 78. I hated that place and will be glad to see it reduced to a pile of rubble

I am glad to see it go. Never liked it, it was supposed to be the last ever super big hospital. Perhaps how my mum wa treatedwhen she passed on didnt help. Not actually seen it for a long time as only been back a couple of times in last few years afterleaving 40 yrs sgo. My sife trained at Dental on same site . I worked a lot at Uni so watched it going up. A lot I miss about Liverpool but not that.

So sad. My mum passed away in this hospital 2014. I grew up visiting relatives in this hospital also.

Thanks for covering this Paul, mixed emotions watching this, I didn’t realise how many memories of this place I had until now. I’m quite happy to know that I won’t ever have to endure any more experiences in that building.

Now all single rooms? Very isolating?

Interesting that @3:20 they've decided to start the demolition right between the mortuary and the Animal House (the tall windowless concrete building to the right of the excavator type machine, where countless thousands of animals suffered and died) This 'hospital' was a death factory like no other. The monstrous ''Liverpool Pathway' sprang from this place, and despite denials, was practiced right up til the day it was closed. I worked there. My family died there. It was a terrible place.

Hadn't really appreciated the scale of this building until seeing these shots. Only visited once with my mum for st Paul's eye hospital that was situated on the ground floor, staff were lovely. I also remember driving into Liverpool along Edge lane in the early 2000s and catching sight of this building for the first time. At that point I didn't know what it was and was thinking it may be an office block. My immediate thought was that it was one of the ugliest buildings, especially from the back. I hope that the new building fairs better with time.

it was a horrible building. I think the staff and maintenance where just fed up of the building by the time they left.

i have a feeling they might use some of the land for more parts of the hospital, the new hospital building looks good but is already showing signs of deterioration when i visited and is suffering from lack of rooms

it's the issue with new builds in general in the uk and ireland. they'll last 20 years tops and cause an extortionate amount of repairs@@veryhighguy

yeah i agree, they do not build like they use to. things were built to last now its all about saving money. just look at the old old royal across the road a lovely building still in use today over 100 years old

When the new build plans were first announced, the Trust stated: “Once the new hospital is constructed, our existing hospital will be demolished. In its place, there are plans to develop a world-class health campus, as well as landscaping green space, roughly the size of Chavasse Park.”
