The song was written by P F Sloan, the original hit was by Barry McGuire (former lead singer of the New Christie Minstrels) - and this version arranged/produced by me. The album is actually "Mike Batt: PHILHARMANIA", made in the mid-nineties, with other stars such as Roger Daltrey, Kim Wilde, Marc Almond, John Farnham etc). I'd love to put this out as a single - maybe with an edit -out of my mad orchestra intro otherwise it wouldn't get any radio play!!! It's on Dramatico records.Artist listing will be Mike Batt Feat" Lemmy". I still have hope s we might get to out as a single one day! Had a lot of fun working with Lemmy on this.

Lemmy crossed so many musical genres from classical to punk via metal. Will never understand his obsession with the Beatles but will still miss him all the same!
@dogma90216 жыл бұрын
Robert Roberts Look at the Beatles and what they did. Every true musician holds the Beatles on some type of pedestal, or aspire to their greatness in some shape or form. The only downside is that the continued Beatle mania still overpowers a lot of praise that Zeppelin should be getting, but Zeppelin still gets it's fair share of attention.

I grew up listening to Barry McGuire singing this song I loved it back then and I still do today. That version will always be the best in my mind. I did not know Lemmy did this version until now and its excellent as well. I saw Lemmy so long ago, back when he was in the band Hawkwind. It was in some small coastal town in Norfolk England. He came out in to the audience and sat on the floor practically next to me (no seating it was that classy) while the support band was on. He was using two large marbles rolling them round in his fingers the whole time. I guess to exercise his playing hand before going onstage. It was quite a night, I remember them playing Silver Machine of course.

In my opinion, while Barry McGuire's version of "Eve of Destruction" was right for the time, it sounded to me like it was "rushed", which left a lot of feeling and emotion out of the song. When Lemmy sang it he added that feeling and emotion to the song and you can reeeeeeeally hear it! To me this is the BEST version of this song ever recorded! And the other songs on the album ("Philharmania: Mike Batt and Friends"), are just as great! Highly recommended! 🙂
