The Royal Regiment of Scotland Freedom of North Lanarkshire Parade

The Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) led by Pipes and Drums from 2 SCOTS marching through Motherwell when they receive the Freedom of North Lanarkshire on Saturday 13 July 2024.
The Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) is the senior line infantry of the British Army. Each regular battalion wears a different coloured hackle as a battalion identifier, to distinguish them today and link them to their particular antecedent lineage: 2 SCOTS wear White (as did the Royal Highland Fusiliers), 3 SCOTS wear Red (as did the Black Watch), 4 SCOTS wear Blue (as did the Highlanders), and 5 SCOTS wear Green (to represent the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders).

I know I'm biased but I always think Scottish regiments look far more disiplined than others, I'm sure the sound of the pipes and the wearing of the kilt helps. Well done lads I'm proud of you all.

April 18, 1775 Paul Revere took the streets of Boston on horseback warning the British are coming. Duh! Read coats you can she them a mile away. The ceremonial uniform in Buckingham Palace is impressive. But this camouflage. Actually I love the juxtaposition of British traditional and modern army. No one is out of shape like some guards in London. You have pipes and drums which I adore and a lean mean fighting machine.

Alisonwyte. Yes you are very biased, but that is no crime or shame, I assume you are Scottish and therefore quite rightly promote your regiments. Personally, being English and ex-army, I can tolerate massed Bagpipes, just. I hate the things. But as far as I’m concerned every single regiment in the British Army are all the best in the world. As for having the pipes lead me into battle scares me to death, who would want any enemy to hear we are coming, and there is no mistake about the pipes giving prior warning. Having said all that and upsetting many proud Scots, I think they do look smart.

Thank you for being honest. You have to be Scottish to appreciate...its all about our history and respect. By the way, not since WW1 have they led soldiers into battle. WW1 saw over 1000 (or more) Scots and 900 Canadians slaughtered at the start.

Yes - they are trained infantry. Traditionally their operational role was as GPMG gunners but they have also been used in other roles such as HQ defence, CO R Gp etc
