Dat bass line.... Hot dayum. This is, harmonically, one of the most difficult pieces I've ever had to perform. Definitely makes you doubt your ear a bit. Kudos to these men for making it sound so effortless and beautiful!

This was such a moving piece, performed perfectly. I can't begin to describe how incredible I felt just watching it all happening. It's beauty like this, radiating from the wonderful people in our wonderful world, that makes me feel in love with life and with God. I will never forget witnessing this moment.

I was almost silently sobbing on my knees at this ....this ....this...holy work of art. I love Gregorian chants. But this had my mouth hanging open. And when they showed the shot of the Prince and Princess back in position at the alter I did cry. I hope they have the love to stand the test of time. Their choice of music says they do.

@PaulMealor Sir, I could not get enough of this piece at the time of the wedding. Revisiting it again, again I am taken up into the heavenlies. Tomorrow I will be teaching on Psalm 133 regarding Christian unity. We will play your interpretation and read the English translation of Ubi Caritas et Amor. Thanks for being a blessing through your work.

@PaulMealor Dr. Mealor, speaking as a musician, this piece of music is the only piece of music that comes close to describing the mysteriousness of the intimacy I had with someone one time, with my indisputable other half. It is hauntingly beautiful. I even bought the SATB print of it to secure in the most honored place in my lifetime collection of music. You, sir, are truly good. Highest Regards. -Valerie Roeder, RN, BSN

I keep hearing these harmonies in my head, and all I want is to continue to sit still and listen to them. I don't know music theory so can't understand what is happening in the harmonies. People who've been dead and then returned to life, tell of having heard In the other dimension music beautiful beyond description. I wonder if it sounds like this? I shall keep looking for info about Paul Mealor. He must be a very special person. If anyone knows him, please convey my respects.

avivagabriel, the melody associated with the "ubi caritas" text comes from Mediaeval times; probably somewhere between the 4th and 10th Centuries. It may even predate that. Durufle's harmonization of the melody is probably the most well-known. And I agree, Mealor's piece was hauntingly gorgeous, and in my thinking the high point of the entire service.

Late this August, I hope my ....other half....comes over to visit me, and when we finally give in to making beautiful love together, i'm going to make sure this plays at some point. If it played over and over for 3 hours it would be so ........ [speechless]...he makes me speechless.... he is surely the first and last, he is surely my other half, I am surely his slave in God forever; I was, I am, and I always will be...

I agree, really entrancing. But, just a correction, this is not a Gregorian Chant. A Gregorian chant is Monophonic, meaning it doesn't have harmonics.

Anybody knows if this is sung in English ubi caritas et amor
@darjabednarik65347 жыл бұрын
It's latin, not english. Here's the lyrics and translation if you wanted one: Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exsultemus, et in ipso jucundemur. Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum. Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur: Ne nos mente dividamur, caveamus. Cessent iurgia maligna, cessent lites. Amen. Where charity and love are, God is there. Christ's love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And may we love each other with a sincere heart. Where charity and love are, God is there. As we are gathered into one body, Beware, lest we be divided in mind. Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease, And may Christ our God be in our midst. Where charity and love are, God is there. And may we with the saints also, See Thy face in glory, O Christ our God: The joy that is immense and good, Unto the ages through infinite ages. Amen.
