I need…no…this world needs an updated version of this movie that goes deeper into the psychology of Eva. We need to see what happened during those ten years. She’s such a fascinating character because in a world where women heroes just kind of got moved around by the plot, this character has full agency all the way through the film. Eva is not a good person, neither was Joan for that matter, but one thing you can say about both is man is she talented. I feel she was slightly bitter and cynical to begin with because of the lack of options for an ambitious woman in Chicago at that time. As a controlling person who enjoys manipulating people into a corner, if she could have been a corporate lawyer or a business executive, she would have been ruthless and thrived. However as things were, getting married to money was the only way a woman could attain the lifestyle she could otherwise afford herself. Despite what she did on screen, I respect her because she never makes apologies for what she is. Maybe she just never got to.

Just 50. Some glamorous women can still hold their allure at fifty. I think she'd have been more effective if she hadn't been so stiff. This is all such high camp it can't be taken seriously, though. The fun part is watching what happens to the people around Eva.

Christina Crawford thinks that this movie was her mother drinking in real life at her worst! Also, this truly is the last movie where Crawford was photographed at her best! After this movie she would be married to Alfred Steele, boozing, fighting, and international travel would make her age very quickly! John Ireland and Joan boozed and balled all during the making of this movie!
