Ninh explains the Unified Rules of MMA - I'm surprised so many people asked for this one, I honestly thought the rules were self explanatory. For fighters: different organisations have different rules so check the rules of the organisation that you're fighting with.

The "ten point must" system Each judge decides who won each round and awards that fighter 10 points. The other fighter is then awarded 9 or less points, based on how he performed (at the professional level, usually 9). If a penalty caused a point to be deducted, it is subtracted from the score of the round this took place in. Meaning a usual decision score will be 30 to 27, or 29 to 28. They are judged on striking, wrestling and control (who is dominating with spacing and who is on the offensive more) ... Some organizations score by rounds instead of ten point must meaning a score will either be 3 to nothing, or 2 to 1. There is no official rules on where the fighting surface is. It can be in a kickboxing ring or cage of any shape. ... Several states in the US have outlawed mma, so the sport goes by various names legally speaking including Kickboxing, not to be confused with the actual sport of kickBoxing. ... Several fouls in the unified rules are silly or can be exploited, so there is a push to change them and as stated, many organizations have minor changes. Example, unified rules have outlawed 12 6 elbows for no good reason, and fighters can avoid knees to the head while in the clinch by touching the ground. Some organizations therefore ignore the 12 6 elbow penalty or require the 3 point on the ground to be a knee, butt or torso. Loved your video. I thought you said you didn't want to make one on MMA for some reason?
@NinhLyUK4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I made one due to demand.
@Omoplataha7 жыл бұрын
Braking a weight class limit does not always result in a disqualification. If in a case that one fighter does not make the weight it will be changed into a catchweight fight, with the wight limit being of the guy who went over and he gives a % of he's/her's fight purse to the opponent. In case of championship bout it will be changed into a non-title fight (Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter fight was a title fight but Lutter failed to make weight so it changed to a non-title fight). Bonus things for the Daijiro Matsui vs Bob Schrijber, It is illegal to attack someone after the round has ended (That axe kick to the back of the head). Or it is also illegal to keep attacking/holding into a submission hold(Looking at you Palhares) after a referee stops the fight.
@NinhLyUK7 жыл бұрын
Yes, like I said in the video, the rules differ between organisations. This was a general overview of the URMMA but no organisation follows those rules strictly. They all have variations.

djbobbydjable the knee to the head alone would have resulted in Conors disqualification. Repeated warnings for a fence grab would have resulted in disqualification. Yes Khabib was dominant but he could have throttled Conor sooner and conversely Conor could have bought enough 'time' to turn it around in his favour which fortunately he wasnt able to do. But lets say Khabib hit with an illegal knee, do you really think he would have gotten away with it? I doubt it.

You say that a ref will award a TKO when a fighter is no longer able to defend themselves. However, a ref will also stop the fight if ALL a fighter is doing is defending themselves. If a fighter is only able to keep blocking and not able to accomplish any productive movements such as escaping, striking back etc, then the ref will stop the fight. A fighter is not allowed to just curl up and get wailed on indefinitely. Edit, along the same lines, a fighter is not allowed to just run away. If a fighter continues to run away from the opponent, the ref will disqualify them

@NinhLyUK6 жыл бұрын
I think the referee would stop it.
@ryanhouk35604 жыл бұрын
Officially the win by tap out and the win by submission are two different things. Submission is when someone sustains a serious injury or passes out through a legal grappling technique. Tap out is when the fighter surrenders before a submission happens. It's like a tko vs ko, except tap outs are much more common. ... At the am and semi pro level, you have a lot of tough guys who all think they're the next GSP. So a lot of them cheat, or refuse to tap because they figure that looks better than a loss. ... Because of this, ive personally seen a guy get his shoulder dislocated. Not a fun time.

What about the fighter's corner picking up the tighter and putting him on the stool. Re: Ortega vs Volknovski end of 3rd round.

I have a question about punches. Is there a limit to how hard you can punch because it looks like fighters hold back power when punching. Also, why don't they just charge head on running towards each other and start throwing punches and kicking, instead it always looks like they are like in this constant dance with one another.

You can punch as hard as you like, but you then commit yourself to the attack. If you miss, you are vulnerable to a counter attack. Same applies to just charging at them.

look at fighters like muhammad ali, anderson silva, mcgregor etc. they constantly use their enemies momentum to increase their punches strength. if you have poor speed and are easy to anticipate, you will just run in a punch that knocks you out. you are also very predictabel

What about arm levers in the standup? Like the police does?

I don't think that's illegal, but any trained fighter can get out of that one.

Just FYI, your explanation of how to win by KO was partially wrong. There is no limited amount of time within which they need to get up. As long as the ref. feels they are “intelligently defending” themselves, they can remain on the ground until the round ends. It’s quite subjective actually and there are many controversial stoppages because of this.

In short: yes.

MMA is as real as a legal fight can get, but these rules make you wonder if grapplers would really win as much if these rules were lifted, or if they were in a street fight with someone of equal skill...🤔

That's an interesting question. It's true what they say - when you start implementing rules into martial arts, it gets watered down to a shell of what they're supposed to be. MMA was originally billed as the 'sport without rules', so you're right. This is as close as it gets without watching two guys duke it out in a parking lot. Whether other martial arts are as effective in real life is debatable. Cheers bro!

They'd probably win more grappling is way easier without gloves and punches have to be very precise to avoid hand injury without gloves

No strikes to throat? But they kick the throat all the time. Holly Holm KO'd Ronda Rousey by a spinning kick to the throat.

Are you allowed to knee or elbow someone going for a double leg takedown? Are you allowed to palm strikes to the chin?
