Also note that 一点 can mean "1 o'clock" or "a little" depending on whether 一 is pronounced as 1st tone (for "1 o'clock") or 4th tone (for "a little"). There may be other examples using 一, but this is one I specifically remember. Good lesson!

good question and observation. yes when it means "1 o'clock", it applies the rule of " counting like 1 2 3, so first tone. And when it means "a little", it's the forth tone.

Thank you. What frustrates me is that Chinese dictionaries show the wrong pinyin tones for common words that start with yī, such as: some=yīxiē, always=yīzhí, together=yīqǐ, same=yīyàng, everything=yīqiè.
