Something later explained was after the plot maliketh sealed destined death until the later fight with the tarnished. After his defeat the tarnished unleashed destined death once again meaning nobody was immortal.

I just finished elden ring. I was under the impression that Ranni somehow convinced the black knives to kill Godwyn and at the same time she killed herself which was why the rune's power was split between both that's why Godwyn perished in spirit and Ranni in flesh. But I always wondered, was it ever mentioned why Godwyn was chosen to bear the other half of the wound of the centipede?

godwyn the golden, I'm assuming that implies he was the golden orders poster child. If you had to pick a demigod in order to rebel against and take the golden order outside of the lands between i'd pick him, he was also quite powerful to be able to beat back the dragons like he did

There is a theory backed up by some subtle hints in the game that since all the black kinves were once lumen, the same species as marika and since the lumen are scions of the eternal city, some of them felt betrayed by marika when she became the vessel of the elden ring and decided to kill the favorite son of marika as vengeance toward her, the possibility of this as a act of vengeance is implied by the fact that the leader of the black knives share the name alecto as one of the trhee greek personification of vengeance.

I have to wonder if the Land of Shadow was said Gloam-eyed Queens kingdom. When she was defeated, Marika became a Goddess by removing the rune as stated, which would seem to indicate voth happened there, since we've been told that was yhe place in which Marina ascended. It would mean darkness and cold reigned there, so it makes me wondernif thats also where Rannis teacher came from. Should be interesting to see what new spells and effects we see with the dlc

Radagon is Marika, Marika is God. Marika removed DD without destroying the Elden Ring, so there's no reason she couldn't separate off another little piece to corrupt/bewitch her country's only unbeatable enemy.

You should explore Liurnia more, the majority of the end game is accessed through there and you can get into the academy by finding a key behind a sleeping dragon just west of the academy, good luck on your path to become Elden lord, ye shall be blessed with grace forevermore.

There is only one rune of Death, but its power can be infused into objects, such is why the Black Knife assassins only needed to steal fragments of Maliketh's sword to give it the same power of the rune of Death. The curse mark however seems to be something a little different, because while the rune of Death simply kills you, the curse mark if applied correctly can also obliterate your soul

I still find it odd that Maliketh is Queen Marika’s Half-brother AND Shadow-Bound Beast, when Blaidd isn’t stated as such. Or how he was able to contain the rune of death; considering how SBN are supposed to function in ER, it makes even less sense. I think it’s because we all missed the obvious contradiction and the answer to a couple of ER biggest mysteries. Maliketh isnt Marika’s shadow, he’s the Gloom Eyed Queen’s. Marika’s shadow is Radagon. I know that sounds crazy but the entire story makes more sense, within that context. Based on what we know about SBB, Malikith betraying and killing the GEQ, as well as Radagon being the only one trying to stop Marika and reverse Marika’s actions. Marika’s comments to Radagon being the” Leal hound of the Golden Order”, among other things, start to make a whole lot more sense. It would also answer that uncomfortable question as to what constitutes being a “Single God” and how they were able to procreate. Your shadow is still a part of you after all The key note that you need to know here, is that the SBB isn’t just the physical manifestation of their Cringe and denial, it’s also created using the essence of an Outer God. I'm pretty sure the Elden Ring isn't an inherent part of reality. It is the influence of the outer god referred to as the Greater Will (I think), and it governs reality because it is the dominant influence. Like, if the rot god had dominion, it would have control over the principles of reality, assuming it had that level of or kind of power. If the Elden Ring was inherent to reality, I feel like there would be greater effects during the shattering, such as reality itself breaking.

It was Ranni who stole the rune fragment from Maliketh, not the assassins themselves. Ranni is an empyrean and also insanely powerful. It was probably not difficult for her to conceal her pressence with magic and take a piece of the rune.

Marika action resulted in people being immortal by returning to the Erdtree and then being reborn, kinda like reincarnation. Deathroot makes people immortal by never dying and/or being resurrected.
