@Westminsterinstitute It's a certainty that Robert Reilly, setting the table here, is intellectually and morally dishonest for his absurd, ahistorical depiction of the war as "unprovoked" by the U.S. and NATO and their proxy, Ukraine, when he asserts this as a legitimate stance to take within the debate, a stance somehow worthy of defending rather than the outright refutation it deserves. History does not begin when it is convenient for you to claim it begins. In this case we can go back at least to the late 1980s and early 1990s and Western guarantees that NATO, after the unification of Germany and Germany entire's admission to NATO, would not move an inch to the east. For relevant, essential history we must also look to the $5 billion the U.S. spent on overthrowing the Yanukovych government in 2014 in order to install its pro-Western puppets; to the leaked phone call wherein Victoria Nuland selects the leaders of that government ensuring its hostility to Russia; to Merkel and Hollande's admissions that Ukraine only entered the Minsk Accords as fraud so as to give Ukraine the time to build up its military for specific use against Russia; to Ukraine's overt murder of 14,000 mostly ethnic Russians and civilians in the Donbass b/t 2014 and 2022; to Ukraine's increased shelling of civilian targets in the Donbass during February 2022, intended to provoke Russia's invasion given Ukraine was in violation of accords intended to guarantee peace; to the West bribing and threatening Zelensky through its envoy, Boris Johnson, thus scuttling the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia that would have left Ukraine intact, would have left the oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk to determine their own futures including remaining within Ukraine, would have retained Crimea within Russia (it was in Russia's then the USSR's possession since 1783, and only transferred it to Ukraine as an administrative favor by Krushchev in 1954---you'd do as well to argue Crimea should be returned to the Turkic khanates as you would to Ukraine) and permanently guaranteed Ukraine's neutrality and sovereignty. It's simply inexcusable not to have incorporated these entirely factual and well-understood events into your intellectual and moral framework for the war. Anything less means what you're engaged in is mere propaganda of the lowest sort.

I happened to learn about Dr. Bryen due to a very interesting post of his I came across on Twitter. This interview was a great realist analysis and not for those who want to keep their heads filled with the fantasies the Western-NATO Ukraine axis have been pumping out for the last year. Sincere thanks for uploading content that doesn't blindly follow the narrative.

Thanks for this honest conversation, which may have been unsatisfying for those who look for simple solutions. Unfortunately, the situation is complex, difficult and dangerous. You have to be sober and realistic in order to find a way out of this conflict. The risk of escalation is considerable. It happened many times before in history that a rather minor conflict escalated into a major war.

Well, interesting, I have to say I disagree with 90% of what dr Bryen says. I realize things are not black and white, but I am of opinion, that negotiations with Russia, which essentially means succumbing to their own terms, is plainly and simply not the right thing to do. I will also just add this: Coming from a country formely a part of Yugoslavia, I am saddened to see, that Putin doesn't realize, or better, doesn't care, that this war has with certainty already created generational hatred between two brother nations.

@@Roon3808 Crimea has been a Russian heartland for a few centuries. It was given to Ukraine by a Soviet leader who was Ukrainian when Russia and Ukraine were one country but it's always had a Russia character. They had a referendum in 2014. Funny how we are told to accept votes when the western Imperialist nations want to recognise them like in the Falklands, Northern Ireland, Kosovo or Gibraltar but when it's countries they don't like setting the agenda they suddenly lose respect for people's right to self determination.

The talk about Russian losses is becoming ridiculous. The interview with the Australia former soldier advising the Ukrainians points out that Wagner (fighting around Bakhmut) is taking relatively few loses where as the Ukrainians are taking huge losses. This the view from an Australian advising on the ground. He reports their attacks are very well coordinated and they are very well equipped. This idea of Russia using human waves or throwing "meat" at the problem has been debunked. I still think Putin should have tried putting a significant force, include nuclear Kinzal etc into Cuba or Venezuela to bring the US to its senses before this conflict. Essentially putting the US in the same position that Russia is being put in. Russia is very bad at in its policy is making US hypocrisy, it needs to demonstrate it rather than just speak it.

Remember what difference MLRS systems did? I think the west, and by west I mean primarily US, are balancing how and when to slowly dose in the equipmentt needed. Next cruicial component will be ATACMS and guided bombs. Something with which Ukraine can target its entire territory. Ukraine has been playing it safe and kept up its promise not to use these weapon deliveries to attack Russia itself so I see them eventually getting those pieces too.

Some of you call anyone a mouth piece that doesn't spew US state department propaganda to comfort you. The amount of lies spewed about this war on a daily basis and the amount of pundits who will outright lie is staggering. Dr. Bryen seems like one of very few with an honest analysis on facts of the situation. It's very uncomfortable for people who are bombarded 24/7 with sophisticated NATO propaganda to hear things that don't fit that narrative but the painful truth is better than a blissful lie in the long run.

I've found in this war you can't believe or take anyone's words but the amount of lies and propaganda that comes from the western side is staggering. I'm not saying the Russians are angels, but that there is a lot of deceit and self interest going on on all sides of this conflict.
