What stage presence Mal had, I love Foxy's guitar leads like I need them to live (seriously his guitar sound was sooo good... live and on records), and Segs and Ruffy are the tightest damn rhythm section punk rock ever saw! It's a crying shame Paul and Malcolm died far too young and they weren't all able to make more music together, but what output they did have is just timeless and undeniably great. Pure magic this bunch...

Dude. My soul. I'm 40 in 2020, grew up on Guns-N-Roses, Metallica, VanHalen, Black Sabbath, The Guess Who, etc. Adult life I actually hang with some musicians, my age, mostly into old soul, blues, etc. I literally TONIGHT heard Mr. Henry Rollins speak (KZbin clip on this channel) insanely high of this band that I (some crazy how) had not heard of before. This is my first time hearing The Ruts. 4 minutes BLEW ME AWAY. I feel like I just heard Rock for the first time. I've literally been in a music Rut in recent years, nothing good coming out really, and this one song, which will lead to more and more, I feel like is single-handedly pulling me out of it. Thank You.

Saw them live in the 80s BRILLIANT. This video doesn't do them justice. Malcolm Owen, straight up delivery ,no clowning about in a suit ,was powerful. The band tighter than a ducks arse.
@innercityunit2112 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this comment. and to those who never saw the Ruts live, this video footage really doesn't do them justice, or reflect what they were like on stage. I was lucky enough to see them several times in 1979 and 1980 and you hit the nail on the head, they were sooo powerful...their singles and debut album were great recordings, and powerful too!...But I agree, they didn't clown around live, they were straight up and urgent and delivered the message. I think every time I saw them, they all swapped instruments on In a Rut, but they didn't fuck about. I saw them once at Nottingham's Sandpiper club, a great punk venue back in the day, where they played In a Rut, swapped musical duties and the song was extended by at least 5 to 10 minutes, before all getting back to normal roles and finishing the song. it was epic!..I'll never forget it.....And again, you're spot-on, so very tight, and loud and the songs were a powerhouse. Great band, quite possibly the best punk band ever, if such a claim can be made, great musicians and fabulous song writers. You must have seen them in 1980, because Malcolm died in July of that year, I was 20 at the time. They were just beginning to take a slight twist musically, with the likes of West One etc and it would have been really interesting to have seen where that would have led...But, alas, we will never know, despite the continuation of Ruts DC. 'The Crack' is a punk classic, a total powerhouse of an album, still sounds fresh and messages that are still very relevant today.
