To be fair though, if you're a budget gamer, then PCIe 4.0 (or more so 5.0) x8 will be absolutely plenty for whatever graphics card you're getting. As an example - difference between 3.0 x16 and 4.0 x16, with top of our current generation cards, is but a couple of fps. Half the bandwidth of the port (x8, 4.0), and throw in a mid-tier card.. won't be any issues there. Especially not at PCIe 5.0. Not to mention that some mid-tier cards comes with only x8 lanes these days, such as the 4060/Ti & RX 7600. At x8 3.0 it might start hurting though - but not really any modern systems coming out with only 3.0 support any longer. Though in general I do believe that consumer parts have way too few PCIe lanes. Would be lovely if they'd jump from the default 20-28 (depending on platform) to 32-48. I'd almost say it wouldn't matter for consumers, but, in the future of NVMe SSDs most likely entirely replacing SATA based SSDs.. we're going to need some more lanes, or at least bigger/cheaper drives. For me? I mostly just want them to add more lanes so I can re-use my hardware as server hardware after upgrading my PC. 😅

I have the 8700G with 780M graphics. It even runs Quake II RTX with 720p and 80% scaling around 35-40 FPS. I really did not expected that from an iGPU. With AI upscaling (RSR) I can make the game run at 1440p with still playable framerates. Don´t cheap out on the memory, it needs fast DDR5 memory or the GPU part will disappoint you. Had DDR5-6000 in the beginning but that was mediocre at best. Swapped the memory against DDR5-7600 and it improved FPS so much that I now can run several games in 1080p med/high. Skyrim SE in 1080p for example improved from 38 - 40 FPS to 50+ FPS and is now perfectly playable. This is the first computer making me not miss a dedicated GPU.

@@lmchua8644 I hate to say this, but that's not how chip manufacturing works. An expensive chip doesn't necessarily cost more to produce than a cheap chip, at all. An entire line of chips is made from the same or similar dies, which are cut apart and then binned into different chips. The profitability of a chip company is based on "average selling price", which is the average price of all the chips. So if they can get $1000 for the top chip and $100 for the cheapest chip, and the average of all sales comes out to $500, that's their "Average Selling Price". Then they divide their R&D and Production up to see if they made a profit. The price of things in the computer market has nothing to do with production cost, in general. It just doesn't work that way.

I don't understand why people would want that though. At that point why not just get a cheap mini PC and hook it to the back of your monitor? If you're looking long-term this APU doesn't really leave you with an upgrade path that makes sense unless you replace it altogether which defeats the purpose. The graphics performance is only about half that of the 8600G and if you want to use a dGPU, it'll be artificially limited to 4 lanes which can affect performance especially in CPU-intensive esports games. So no matter how you look at it you're better off going with an 8600G or 7500F/7600 instead. If they hadn't cut the iGPU down so drastically compared to the 8600G it would make more sense.

Curious if we’ll ever see a chip similar in size to a Xeon or Threadripper that could really compete with a discrete GPU. I’m sure it would require a specific motherboard with boosted power delivery, but could they then add onboard memory as well? I don’t think dedicated GPUs are going anywhere anytime soon, but having one chip handle everything sounds very cool

When you check the specs of the 8500G, it says that it only supports upto 5200mhz ddr5 ram. How did you make 6000mhz ram work with it?
@eusebiou-say-bee-oh3263 ай бұрын
Warrantee-wise 5200MHz is advised, yet it has been reported by others in the YT community that 6000 MT/s is the sweet spot, but if ever something goes wrong due to overclocking the ram, then the warrantee of the ram is voided. Now given that 2x16gb of DDR5 can be from $80 to $120 or so, would the average consumer try their luck? It is easy for content creators to play around with overclocking because companies can show how good their products are, so their risks are small when a failure occurs. Yet for us consumers, it is a different story altogether.

I would have liked to see more vram hungry games in that x4 vs x16 benchmark, and maybe with lower mid-tier card with like 8 GB vram. Because 4x bottleneck is bigger with more vram usage so that would have highlighted the problem better, and AFAIK more vram helps to avoid that bottleneck in some cases. And it would have been realistic scenario because so many newly published games are quite vram hungry. And of course that would have been more realistic combination than with 800$ 4070 TI Super.

How big was the gap in clock speed between Zen4 and 4c cores ?
@sassuki7 ай бұрын
So basically the 7500F is 10% faster on average than the 8500G. By the way, You don't need to specify the decimals when giving figures, as the margin of error is usually ±3% anyway. So instead of writing 146,4fps, you could just say 146fps. No need to specify the 0,1% lows also, because these are very tricky and need substantial benchmarking times to be *really* accurate. It's simple math: You need 1000 seconds runtime to get one single (real) 0,1% low value, as these are *per second* values; that's almost 17 minutes runtime! And in order to exclude that it was a fluke (Windows just decided to kick off an update in the background, or your antivirus just decided it needs to check something), you probably need to run the test wa~y longer, something like 2 to 3 hours, which is totally unrealistic. In contrast, the 1% low value will be very reliable after those said 17 minutes of testing, and are somewhat reliable after just 5 minutes of testing.

I got the impression from your description this was a quad core. These G series chips have a neutered cache which is why they suffer so badly in CPU intensive areas. On paper it is capable of benchmarking the same as a 5600X in multi thread workloads but sure doesn't perform like one. If Esports is your goal, just go buy a Xeon E5-1650 V4 and Machinist X99 MB and get a full fat RX580. You'll spend less and have better framerates. If you used a x8 4.0 GPU on a 4x 5.0 slot, you'd see zero difference.
