Our histories are so similar! I started sewing clothing in junior high, took tailoring in high school, thought about teaching home ec. Started cross stitching in early 80’s then started quilting. During covid I started watching a couple quilters on KZbin, then saw the cross stitching and thought I’d try stitching, got a magnifying light and it worked and I’m hooked. I called Quilters Station and inquired about retreat in September but at same time I got a cancer diagnosis and didn’t know what was ahead. After surgery and radiation I am now cancer free! I have not called them back as I assume it’s full but should see about wait list. I’m in Lincoln, Nebraska so it’s not a far drive. Oh, yes, another similarity I retired from the courts but now I work part time in a law firm. Anyway, what I was going to comment is the calendar of retreats would be wonderful!
@Roberta.SABLEStitchers2 жыл бұрын
Lots of similarities indeed! So glad you got through your cancer. I know she is full for September but she'll probably announce the spring schedule at that retreat and start taking reservations. There is also a new retreat next year in north KC offered by Primitive Punch Needle that just started registering. FB Group is PNPS Stitch & Stay to learn more.

You made this video like you’d done it a million times. I never would have guessed it was your first video. I loved seeing your stitched pieces. great 1st flosstube. I love your idea about a resource for stitchers. I'm a knitter and rely heavily on Ravelry for all things knitting. I've often mentioned to other stitchers that we need a Ravelry type resource for stitchers. Access to materials, information sharing, gatherings, all sorts of things for shops and stitchers.

Have lived in Lee's Summit most of my 65 years. Haven't been in Quilter's Station since it moved and they had embroidery floss but no patterns then. Perhaps I will check into the stitch group. We used to have tons of cross stitch shops, Just Needlin' was my favorite. Saltbox was a nice shop. CC& Company is the last of the brick and mortar now. I enjoyed your video and will definitely watch you again. God Bless.

I enjoyed your video and viewing all of your projects. Having a web site to go to and look up the retreats near me would be fantastic! I have returned to cross stitch after 40 year break- job/ kids/ life- and recently discovered floss tubes. My word how the designs and options have changed for the better. And all the paraphernalia available now for projects. I am a monogamous stitcher and almost had heart failure when I heard a floss tuber stating she had 70 works in progress! So a website to go to for retreat information is again a fantastic idea. Good luck with your start up. Happy Stitching from South Carolina

Congratulations Roberta, enjoyed your first floss tube. Found you through Needle and Flax. Love your idea of putting together a database of available retreats. I have been to Quilters Station a number of years ago. Some quilting friends from Denver and I went on a Missouri road trip. We went up to Hamilton, stopped in Liberty on the way to see Angela Walters shop and our last stop was Quilters Station. What a great shop. They did not have Cross stitch at that time. I hope to be able to attend one of their cross stitch retreats soon.

Well done on your first floss tube, Roberta! I love the idea of creating lists of retreats and guilds! What a great resource that would be! But what I am also looking for is a list of needlework shops across the country. I am also a knitter, so I’m a bit spoiled by Ravelry where you can find a yarn shop wherever you might be traveling to. I haven’t been able to find a list like that for cross stitchers. It doesn’t even have to be searchable, just a list by state. I’d be so grateful if you’d be willing to add that project to your list! 😊 Thanks for considering it!

It's great to have found you! Love your stitching style and gorgeous pieces. You are very calm and it feels like you're in the room! I'm from the UK and I cross stitch, embroider and sew and I'm looking forward to your future episodes!

What a great first video! I, too, love the reproduction samplers! I started stitching them in the late 1970s on 14 count Aida, soon moved to 22 count, then later to linen. I stitch most on 40 count now. I thought your Sarah Beecher looked familiar, looked at the wall behind me and sure enough there she was, done in 1987! I’ll be looking for your next videos.
