Great program of your insights; I will add two things. The becca etymon is probably of similar origin to the wailing tradition at the Western Wall (what that truly is, I’m not sure). Secondly, the etymology of Mecca is probably related to Akkadian maqqu “vessel for offerings”.

Thank you for this interesting movie and your research. I live in Israel and the history of this region it's so interesting , I admire the history of the nabateans . It's one think I really ask myself. How did the ancient builders, calculate so precise the angle of the direction to Petra or Mecca, so that the Qibla is in the desired direction? We have GPS today but how they did it 1500 years ago?

​@@carmenrosenblittkatz6094Prof. As David King = writes, these ancient mosques were built towards sunrise and sunset in winter, not towards Petra, because early Muslims worked towards Mecca/Kaaba through them..The people of Petra spoke Aramaic, Muhammad spoke Arabic, and the original Quran was in Arabic languages, the Meccan dialect! There is a 7th century copy of the Quran at the University of Birmingham, and it's in Arabic! - There are verses of the Quran that say that the Quran was revealed in Arabic, for example Surah Shura 7 and Surah Yusuf..

Pretty convincing. I would say the probability that he's correct is pretty much 1. If I was a Muslim I would pray to Petra. And I would be very concerned about Truth in general and would come to its defense. Also, considering all the book burning including early versions of the Koran, I would not follow it blindly. I would follow the heart, the Sufi way.

I think you are wrong. Petra has nothing to do with islam. Early muslims didnt have modern technology tools to determine the location of the Kaarba. The quran was written in purely arabic, the arabic of medina and mecca. Petra citizen didnt speak arabic.

The biggest evidence that the Kaaba is in Mecca is that Zam Zam water comes out from there and that this is the city of pilgrimage.Another evidence is that the Prophet Abraham told us that the city of Mecca was a barren land. Yep, if Petra was such a great trading centre, there would have been some mention of it in the Roman histories.. there is no source of water, no major public baths, no major area for housing a large population usually associated with a major trade route..
