We too have something similar to this in Costal karnataka,South India,India.We call it "Daivaaradhane" that means worshipping of spirit who protects us from harm and danger and blesses us... Nice!! but I like when the Belanise Woman and Daughters paint their own face as the mask, Makin their eyes big, seeing the different emotions and movements and concentration just seems alternate- then the mask with just one facial expression

It is kwan yin, Balinese people assimilated budhism into its culture especially chinese buddhism.
