Heroes are those who ,despite the hate of the present, secure the future so others might live and value more progressively than the past ever could. Only now do we see their heroism and for that I cannot even establish the feeling of thankfulness and I would personally thank each and everyone of them. "You saved Half of the World and you saved me. I promise we will make sure your heroism isn't forgotten, Thank you" Is what I would say to them.

Saved billions of lives not only in the present but also billions of lives to come, and left to die abandoned and in a slow terrifying and agonizing way. No way for men who saved the world to die. Rest in peace brave men. Your story is now known, and the dirty bastards who abandoned you will forever be shamed and haunted by this

These extraordinary people walked out into an unimaginable Hell protected only by plastic wrap, makeshift armor and a gauze mask never fathoming what lie ahead for them as a result. And for their sacrifices they were awarded a certificate. Really puts things in perspective doesn't it? The liquidators saved half on mankind with the actions. Their govt. needs to ensure they didn't die in vain by securing the site and eliminating any possibility of a future explosion. God bless them and their fams.

Its a shame, that these real heroes (Soviet Union, Europe and the whole world) dont get the honor, medical care and benefits, pension, which they deserve, beyond a doubt! Makes me sick. Simply left alone without any respect. R.I.P. like so many others. No one took care, no one honored heroes like him. There are so much examples. A tragedy. An enemy is better treatend.

I watched this docu again and yet so few views still. I am not a dramatic person or keen on "heroes" (the American way..) but these men sacrificed everything and yet they and their families got nothing. Beyond sickening. I will look for a Russian/Ukrainian Chernobyl-foundation and donate a few meaningless Euro to them. No price can repay their deeds but we have a responsibility for them, all of us, humanity.

Governments very seldom do the right thing by its people / The very lest they should do is take care of the men and women that did so much to reduce the damage caused by chernobyl / I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you for your selfless courage / you are all heros / all of you should always be remembered as heros/ I'm so sorry that all had to give so much to save the rest of us around the world / I'm sure you will all reap great rewards in the next life /GOD bless you all !

Why is mankind such bastards, these men gave their lives for what should have been so little to repay them for the safety of millions of people worldwide and we the people let them just die in vein. I'm am ashamed to watch this video of men of such greatness and we cry about not having some comfort of life while they loose their daily. Our world praises worthless people while our true hero's and people who actually make life better die impoverished and in pain, shame on all of us, it's sick.

The danger is that when a couple of generations have passed that these people will be forgotten and their deeds downgraded by time. I can already see it happening in people since WW2. The further you are from the event, the less people appreciate the sacrifices made, to the point where extreme liberals are using some kids today as useful idiots and trying to get them to give away what was fought for. Thats how much sacrifice is worth to people a few generations down the line, it becomes so cheap. My wish is that this isn;t the case for the Chernobyl workers. This stuff should be taught in schools, and the faces and names should be known and celebrated as national heroes. You only avoid same mistakes in the future when you dont forget your past. If you forget your past, and worse than that, stop appreciating the sacrifices that were made, then you are doomed to repeat the mistakes.

So sad... The people of Belarus got such a bad deal. People in Ukraine say things like- 'Thankfully the wind was blowing toward the North West in the hours and days following the disaster". Sure- it was beneficial to Kiev and other parts of Ukraine, but Belarus copped most of the radiation fallout, and the country has struggled to recover ever since. A combination of incompetence, the culture of Soviet silence, and a dose of bad luck all converged to cause the biggest nuclear disaster of all time. So sad...

I see you, I seen what you did. Billions since have known and everyday more and more know the true nature of Nuclear power that has been glorified and the sacrifice that was made on that day and the following days weeks months and years after. Those that knew what their exposure was going to do and still went in anyways, those that were forced that had no choice and those that continue to sacrifice their lives to have this and every other nuclear incident be remembered to learn the lesson. We have not learned that lesson and it may be too late.

Such sacrifice yet it's as if the Ukrainians learned nothing from this catastrophe. They repeatedly fired artillery shells at the Chernobyl reactor site, at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station and the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. So far they have only hit electrical yards powerhouses and the cooling systems but one day they will get lucky and hit a reactor building or a spent fuel cooling pool and cause yet another radiation plum to head across Europe.
