I got a copyright restriction for the King Crimson track during the intro so had to clip it-- sorry.

You brought exactly what I was hoping to this tag, Alex. Along with a few humble brags on display here. "Hallelujah" was a great answer. Not only overplayed but completely taken out of context in many occasions. Love your take on break-up album. Very clever. Props to your daughter for stepping up to help you complete this tag. First person to show I See a Darkness. Even though it totally works for the prompt, I've always struggled to call that album alt-country or even country. It transcends genre. But more on that some other time. Thanks for including all these needle drops. Well done, Alex. I think Dave is scared of this tag. Lol

Alex, good to see the variety that you brought to this vinyl tag. Much different musically from the other videos that I have watched. Thanks, Chris

Great picks Alex. In the mid 2000's, our local library was getting a ton of interesting CD's and that's how I discovered Desintigration Loops. It was a hard listen initially given the length and repetition so I didn't revisit it much, although I found it interesting. Then, not too long ago, one of the local shops got the vinyl set and I picked it up. Listening to it on LP is so much more engaging since you know you can't forward or skip - it forces you to listen. Also, that live version is really great!

I haven’t watched your whole video… yet but the intro clip is one of my all time favourite movies (and the book too)

Love that intro...a perfect beginning. The William Basinski box set is just beautiful. But you surprised me with the Aphex Twins . Drukgs really took my head off in 2001/2002. I'm amazed by James' ability to catch everyone off-guard at the time. Nico was another artist that could really keep the world guessing, didn't she? The Marble Index, and also her next album, Desertshore probably hurt her commercial career at the time but they will forever overshadow most of her contemporaries. Excellent video, Alex. Thanks for sharing. Shawn

Alex, I love watching any VC video, except for Vinyl Tags, maybe because I like asking questions more than I like answering other people's questions. Wow, that sounds sad, doesn't it? Brazilian music seems to have an innate sadness, or maybe it's just a ''yearning'' feeling. Yearning could be Sadnesses' little brother. ''Strange Fruit'' and ''Nature Boy'' are two of my favorite sad songs. I could see the pain and suffering in the eyes of Nico and Billy Bang, their expressions are different, but they share the same sadness. Billy Bang did two versions of the tune, ''Know Your Enemy'' by Bilal Rahman. We cannot truly overcome sadness because we don't know if the enemy is ourselves or Other people.

Hey Alex, Enjoyable response to this. I'm curious to see that movie as well as reading the book, which I was more aware of. Neat hearing the Basinski piece like that. I heard just the CDs earlier on. Among the best blind/deaf buys I've ever made. 🙂I have you to thank for learning of that Billy Bang doc a few yeas ago, yes very moving. Thanks for sharing. -Carm

Great video, love that movie! Slightly on topic question : do you like any of Basinki’s other albums by chance?

yes, I had a few of the early CD only ones that I liked--Vivian and ondine comes to mind. the 2017 LP is good and I still need to catch up on more recent releases, like the one that came out a month ago.
