There are many variables we rate guitar players by, but as far as playing skill nobody came close to JB, the really sad part is he just kept getting better, and even at 78 he still had more in the tank that we’ll never get to enjoy

When my 2-year-old daughter, Rachel Ann, died of brain cancer in 1991, I had Jeff's hauntingly beautiful song, Where Were You, played over the PA system as everyone sat in silence. She used to sit at my feet and listen, as I tried to cop the song with my own Stratocaster. RIP Jeff. Your music is heard in heaven.

The biggest thing that I always admired about Jeff Beck was that he was able to play the music that he wanted to play, instead of what a record company told him to play. He was truly independent, which allowed him to play for as long as he did.

As a young lad of 11 revs around the sun I vividly remember my first encounter with Jeff's other-worldly playing...the year was 1966 and I was mucking around in the hood with some of my mates and one of us had a transistor radio tuned on to the local rock station when we heard the Yardbirds song "Over, Under, Sideways, Down"...well...I was mesmerized and lost my immediate connection to the physical world in the sense that I stopped whatever activity I was engaged in to fully listen to this music that completely challenged my notion of what music is...at that moment I had no ability to understand what I was experiencing and had just experienced...when will it end...when will it end?...I never wanted it to end...Thanks Jeff for the wonderful ride...your "Spirit" will never ever end...although I along with many others will miss your incredible physical presence...I will forever be grateful to you for your gifts that you have so generously provided to myself and the whole world.

Jeff always inspired me as a guitarist to try things outside of the norm. His gift of making the guitar not sound like a guitar always fascinated me. The first part of his song, " Never Alone " sounds more like a horn ( clarinet or an oboe) and then the second half of the song transforms into that guitar sound that only Jeff creates. Rest well my musical friend. Always in my heart and mind, and on a lucky day, my fingers.

Thank you for this Eulogy for Jeff Beck, one of the greatest Guitarist we know. Our Art Class at school will have followed his path all through his life as I did, even though we knew him for such a short time. We remembered him coming in with a bundle of pieces of wood and bits of covered wires and going to the back of the room where the teachers store cupboard was, and sitting on the floor. The boys that knew him best quietly passed down the message that he was trying to make a guitar. I thought, no way will he make any sounds with those short wires. There was no such thing at that time as miniature radios so I do not understand how a few blues notes came out of the cupboard! God Bless and I see him on a golden cloud, playing away! Jeff used to go for trips in his uncle's car. This car was an old sports car and had a big influence on him in the form of a love of this type of car, leading to him making a collection of different old types of sports car which Jeff used to work on himself, and kept in a series of garages on his land much later on. His Uncle played the radio in his car and it was always jazz music which also had a big influence on Jeff, as well. On top of this was his mother's record collection which all concert piano playing people were encouraged to do. His mother had records of all kinds of music and Jeff heard them as well. All this music he heard when a child, and went on to be reflected in his own music, and contributed to his wider knowledge of music of all kinds. C.B.Allen-McLaglen

Jeff Beck was my all-time favorite guitar player. He was the "Guitar player's, guitar player." We all wanted to be able to play how he played. I had the privilege to see him twice in two unusual venues: Before the Long Beach Arena was built in Long Beach, CA, the old brick Long Beach "Auditorium" sat on the land. It was November 1, 1971. Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids was the opening act which matched Jeff's love of '50's style rock. Jeff was in his Rough and Ready period with Cozy Powell, Jan Hammer on keys, and Bob Tench on vocals. I sat in the second row for the outrageous sum of a $6.00 ticket (haha). Then on June 12, 1976 I saw him in the hills of Burbank, CA at the outdoor Starlight Amphitheater. This was his Wired tour. Jan Hammer opening it, then after quite a few songs, the familiar opening drum lick beat started up...but where was Jeff? Right when the guitar was to sound, a spotlight him leaping out from behind and next to drummer Terry Bozzio's kit, and Freeway Jam was underway to start his set. The hard part for me to understand in his death is how/why wasn't he properly diagnosed? Unexplained fever, delirium, perhaps some paralysis. You do a spinal tap and see the bacteria in the spinal fluid. Hit him with antibiotics, and he survives. It was such an unnecessary loss of such a great musician. I literally cried. The TV News had the usual teasing lead-in before cutting to a commercial, then returning to report the story: "A Rock n' Roll guitar Icon gone too soon..." THAT made me turn up the volume. I was utterly shocked...in a stupor. I am glad to see this KZbin tribute. There is a lot of video and great storyline out there about Jeff. I highly recommend everyone search and watch. Funny...one of them...or just a story about it...was that Eddie Van Halen sat in the front row of one Jeff's concerts. He could see his hands and fingers working, and he still couldn't figure out how Jeff did what he did, and sounded like he did. I loved him from 1964's Yardbirds "Having a Rave Up" and "For Your Love", all the way through to recent years. He was the best.

Truth was one of my first 3 albums I invested in; at first I thought the sound of a distorted guitar sounded odd but then, it sank in that it was 'artistic'. Nothing like it, since. Magnificent!

Among so many other's, "Diamond Dust" from the 1975 release of the "Blow by Blow" LP is an absolute masterpiece. The collaboration with George Martin who produced the album and wrote the orchestral arrangements on that track is simply amazing.

First song I heard had me hooked. It was "She's a Woman" with Jan Hammer Group. I must have been through 3 or 4 copies between vinyl and cassettes. Scatterbrain. Freeway Jam. Blue Wind. RIP Jeff. Thanks for all the great music

Jeff Beck was one of a kind. He developed a style that was only possible on a Stratocaster with the master volume on his pinkie and the „tremolo“ on his index finger. Thus he could swell and bend unique sounds.

I was 8 when I heard the single, Heart Full of Soul on a 45 back in '65. I stayed up to date with his music through the years. His life was one branch on a wonderful tree of musicians of all styles: classical, folk, rock, progressive, jazz, fusion, etc.

Saw him back in the early 70s in Berkley I think it was. With Rod Argent. Quite the unique artist. Beck's Bolero was particularly impressive to me. Loved his cars. He was mainly a finger picker which I didn't know until I saw him live. Like Robbie Kreiger. But beyond all that, he was COOL with a capital "K". A life well lived.

I was a teenager when these 2 songs getting FM and Am airplay got my attention. Sugarcane and Ice Cream Cakes. Jeff's sound was unique. I've been learning a few Beck tunes on guitar. Just delicious.

I used to go round to Jeff's house in Demesne Road, Wallington, we were in our teens back in the 60s, he was a year or so older than me, he showed me quite a few little tricks on the Guitar, which I still use to this day, he was so far ahead of us all at that time, sadly missed.

In and amongst all of the hundreds of things being heralded in these good comments, he also brought forward and introduced to many of us that wonderful Wiccan Goddess of the bass - Tal Wilkenfeld.

I MET THE MAN IN 1971 wheni visited London UK my first and last time. Walking home with shepherd pie's takout, i stood at the zebra crossing at Westbourne Terrace Paddington, when a red stingray stopped to let me crossed. I was envious to see the red stingray one of my dream cars and was just about to show a smirk to the fella behind the steering when i noticed.. OMG THAT'S JEFF BECK!. running to his side i asked if he truly was Jeff. the cars behind us were rtudely honking us to get along. jeff said let me park and we can chat. and we did for about 30 minutes. i asked naturally, who he got to replace rod stewart. jeff replied, a fella named bob tench, do you know him? jeff said in fact he was on his way just then to audition him. at the end of the conversation i asked jeff to sign my autograph, but he pulled out a pen that was out of ink. he said run to the shop and get a new one, and he waited till i got back. in the end i told jeff i was a bass jack bruce wanna bee in a clone power trio in singapore playing at the Naval Bases,, but i decided to quit to play lead after listening to TRUTH. I TOLD JEFF I NEVER DREAMT I 'D MEET MY IDOL. JEFF BLUSHED SAYING, COR I AM JUST LIKE ANY OTHER ORDINARY BLOKE HERE. WOW, AS jEFF LEFT. I REMEMBERED HOW MODEST THIS GUITAR GOD WAS. AND REMEMBERED TOO HOW I JUST MET TWO GREATEST ARTIST.. THE PHOTOGRAPHER kARSH AND jEFF BECK. BOTH MEN WHO IMPACTED MY CAREER AS A MUSICIAN AND A PHOTOGRAPHER. and i remembered how other lesser humans who had told me to "f*ck off ,mate!" when i approached them. I related this to Karsh during his audience with him; to which Karsh replied. TO BE GOOD AT ANYTHING YOU CAN JUST PRACTISE A LOT. BUT TO BE A GOOD HUMANBEING, SOME TIMES IT COULD TAKE A LIFETIME. i later came home to release my first indie recording and named the casette album ZBRAXING (ZEBRA CROSSING.. AS IT IS NOW TO KEEP JEFF BECK'S MEMORY IN HOMAGE. till this day, i kept repeating this story to all my audience each time i hear mention of how great Jeff Beck is. Oh well, he is just like any other ordinary bloke. JEFF'S REPLY WILL ALWAYS RESOUND IN MY HEAD AND HIS MUSIC WILL LIVE ON IN MY VERY OWN SPONTAENOUS CREATION OF matt jstlan zbraxing's music. JEFF BECK SOME ORDINARY BLOKE, not!!! LOVE YOU jEFF. ROCK N ROLL WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU. i dedicated anothert tune entitled JEFF''S RED STINGRAY which did not do very well here.. like ti got me 20 .. (no, not 20,000 nor 20,00 views, just twenty.. just 5 more than how many casettes i sold with my first album zbraXing.which the UK FM magazine called.. either a work of genius or just some very bad guitar music. LOL.thanks for letting me share my memory of Jeff with you here on youtube and Farewell Stories. God Bless.

He could have gone on playing around the world another 10 yrs. Tragic that he so unexpectedly contracted an illness and was gone. But what a life he lived and I loved the music he created.
