The deck smoothing algorithm keeps me from playing MTG:A a lot. The shuffler is skewed to give certain deck types a "fighting chance" versus other deck builds, and it's pretty fucked up. The shuffler when you play the MTG:A bot vs other players is different, and it's extremely noticeable. They have you purchase very expensive virtual cards, and then basically play with your chances at win to keep other people from quitting the game because their deck is badly designed. It's fucked.

I quit Arena a couple years ago after playing for the first time for a year. It was crazy fun at first but after a while i just felt burnt out having to grind all the quests and try to collect all the MR cards for cool decks. And since this was Standard, it just felt god damn awful to see half of my earned cards be rotated out. Getting into Magic is easy but keeping up is exhausting unless you're willing to drop a bunch of money on each set.

I had a similar experience. What killed it for me was you needed to actually win matches to gain coins. This led to even the most casual modes being flooded with tryhard meta decks. I felt I couldn’t really build the decks I wanted; not using meta meant I’d be wasting my time losing more matches and not getting rewarded for it. If I can’t even play what I want, what’s the point? They should’ve had the daily challenges that rewarded coins be based on participation, not just wins.

I've played MtG since 1995. I have all the Power 9 cards, I have a cube worth about 20K. I play tournaments in Vegas, Italy, Colorado, etc. I stopped playing online a while ago though because it's absolutely ridiculous how the game is played in terms of getting land screwed all the time, these out of control mono red decks that can win in 3 turns with 2 lands. You don't see this BS playing paper. It's complete garbage all around.

I almost exclusively play Brawl because I find standard to be too sweaty.. except that Brawl matchmaking is so fucking atrocious. I hate that every single deck I play against in brawl is almost my direct counter. I made an amalia deck almost completely centered around life gain and every single deck I played had ways to 1) stop counters, and 2) stop life gain. When I play my Selsnya life gain deck it never happened. Playing the same 5 commanders because the algorithm doesnt know where to place your deck is super tedious as well. Yeah I love magic and its fun, but its boring that it isnt a more random system

You should be able to find the Brawl card weights database around the internet somewhere - it tells you how the cards you use are rated towards matchmaking.

I copied an Amy the Amazonian brawl deck that was a Loot landfall deck because it looked fun. 4 out of the first 5 matches were were vs. Other landfall decks. It was comically stupid. Whenever I play that deck now, more than half the time I play other landfall decks. Now, there ARE a lot of landfall decks in brawl, but when I play other strategies, I might play a landfall deck 25% of the time TOPS.

@@JRJigsawyer Yeah dude its crazy. The brawl algorithm is really interesting that it somehow prioritizes mirror matches. I had made a Boros equipment deck aaaaand most of my enemies were full control or other Boros aggro decks. lol. Makes for some interesting games but otherwise its got a lot of issues to deal with

I just wish damn arena had actual randomness to it. I loathe playing the same 5 decks over and over with all my decks, 3 of which will be direct counters to what your deck does. (Like playing mill, and they'll put you up against a shit ton of reanimator decks when you rarely ever see reanimator if you play control per se)

Pretty much rigged to hell. Run a mono red with 2 Gaea Blessings to deal with mill, will almost always have one if not both in every opening hand even after mulligan. At least 8/10 games. I have 22 mountans in a 62 card deck. I fought a 220 card deck today, I love getting them to 2 life as they perfect draw and for 5 turns in a row I get land shafted so they're forced to win. Screw this rigged asf game. The only thing keeping me on is getting currency to make silly decks to play friends with.

There really is nothing worse than losing to a 200 card deck that somehow manages to perfectly ramp into all of their counterspells + all of their cheap bounce spells + removal + their main combo. Made me want to quit on the spot just how obviously rigged it was.

You pay a kidney to buy a pack, 80% of the cards are balanced for draft (make a fucking draft-specific pack), of the remaining 20%, 19% are good cards with set mechanic that will never see play after the next set releases, and 1% are cards that might be actually good in constructed.

I liked Bloomburrow on paper. Literally the only set I really liked in a long time. The commander decks are fun. The card designs feel good. I don’t like the texture of the cards is the only negative thing. Everything else, I had no idea about or didn’t care for. Too much product to care about, too little care for quality with the majority of everything released. It’s all back to back dumpster fires if you ask me.
