Besides online streaming services, I think an additional reason for the decline in viewership of Match of the Day is the decline in the quality of the match analysis. Things gradually declined in that aspect post the departure of Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson

"Iconic host" - but only if you're under a certain age. To others, Des Lynam is the "iconic host", before that, Jimmy Hill. The show survived their leaving, and it will the same with Lineker.

That is such a good commentary and I don't know if I would see the match of the day again without Gary Lineker

Des Lynham was better

The one thing we can say is Gary isn't going away from football commentary he's got a podcast and obviously match of the day will continue and hopefully continue to be as entertaining as ever

Never ever had Sky or BT. Only freeview so Match of the Day has been the only show I have watched for football highlights. It is a true classic legendary programme which will,be remembered for many years to come

Sky wasn't the first to broadcast live league games it was on ITV in the old first Division soccer Sunday.
@Covering90Күн бұрын
Yeah, if you listen it says first to broadcast on such a vast scale.

MoTD is finished. When I was younger, it was just about football, and now it's just embroiled in presenters who think they are better than us because their presenters are "CELEBRITIES." It's now HASBEENS prattling on about whatever, and Allan (plastic Geordie) Shiera, Garry (Walkers crisps) Linacure make the show tedious. Why spend an hour and a half listening to them prattle. When you can cut straight to the chase and with KZbin hasbens prattling on JUST FOOTBALL the only thing I will miss is the theme tune

crazy hearing Linekar has been the host longer than Des Lynam, time flies. (though tbf I rarely watched from 00 as had Sky and did other things instead, and from 08 not once.)

Good video. I don't think it will be the end but from my perspective I stopped watching MOTD regularly after the 2012/13 season. Only now for big games or if I've spent all day outside on a Saturday. The reasons are as you mention about digital platforms giving instant highlights so I don't have to wait until past 10pm to see what happened in a game that ended 5 hours ago. Also just the fact it's not like 2009 where youtube clips were awful quality and would be removed by copyright that it was better off just waiting for MOTD.

Ay, this channel is gonna go good places if you keep up these sort of videos, can easily make 5k+ subs and monetisation in A few months if they keep being this good

That is very much the plan. And thank you ❤️

Gary Lineker is inconsequential for MOTD. A lot of fans dont really even care for him

@@jarvis911 possibly. The streaming services are certainly consequential though.

Depends what money is thrown at it. Its an institution. Ratings can't really hold up to anything anymore as it's a different world I guess. Compared to what is on it that time slot they still be beating other programs. So. On that sense it does well. Kate Abdo be my choice not sure they can afford her. . Micah and Carragher. Henry when available. Go full CBS. Think Shearer be great in that environment too. Some of the pundits have on been an issue for years!
@Robert-nr5eo3 күн бұрын
I think there's one more reason it declined. Alan Hansen was a miserable bastard but at least he was a) a legendary player of his era and b) not overexposed in the media. Most pundits since are mid table players (at best) who are more known now for being on tv than their own playing career. The overexposure I think is important because you only heard what Hansen said once a week. I think Roy Keane was a more interesting pundit back when he only did ITV games once in a while instead of the rent-a-quote he is now
@Covering903 күн бұрын
Yeah I think a lot of that is valid
