How some, or all, of the family died. At 10 years old, Molly dies after ingesting fluoridated toothpaste and holly berries. At 16, Barbara is murdered during a home invasion or implied domestic dispute. At 11,Calvin fell to his death after swinging off the edge of a cliff. At 49, Edie's husband, Sven, dies due to a contruction accident at the house. At 53, after having spent 30 years living as a recluse in a bunker beneath the house and tramatized at witnessing Barbara's death, Walter is hit by a train after stepping outside for the first time since. Sam marries a woman named Kay and they have three kids. Dawn, Gus, and Gregory. Only Dawn reached to adulthood. At 22 months old, Gregory drowns in the bathtub after his mother not looking, or watching, after him. At 13, Gus is crushed by a totem pole in a storm. Sam and Kay soon get a divorce. Sam went hunting with his daughter Dawn, and falls to his death by being bucked by a dear. Tramatized, Dawn moves to India, she marries Sanjay and they then have three kids.Lewis, Milton, and Edith. In 2002, Sanjay dies due to an earthquake and Dawn goes back to the Finch house with her three kids. At 11, Milton randomly disappears and Dawn becomes paranoid. 2010, Lewis dies by unliving himself at 21. Now desperate, Dawn decides they must all leave the house. Edie however refuses to go and after a heated aurgument between Edie and Dawn, she and Edith leave the Finch house. Edie is then found dead at 93 years old. Edith returns to the Finch house at 17 years old and writes down the history of her family into a book. The journal is made for her unborn child in case she should die before she is able to tell them the stories herself. In the end, the character is revealed to be Edith's son, Christopher, and shows that Edith sadly died at childbirth in 2017. That was a lot 🙂 Well, there you go if you didn't know how some of them died! Edit [1] : omg, thank you for the likes! If you have anymore questions, just comment down below ☺ Edit [2] : Omg, guys. Dying by childbirth has to be the saddest way to die. The mother doesn't even get to meet her baby. The one she's been growing and nurturing for so long by that point, waiting for the chance to finally be with them, only to be ripped away at the last moment.
@tymothyyoung15305 ай бұрын
I know that feeling but the other way around. The grief is awful, and I'd never wish that on any child having to grow up never knowing their mum, knowing she never even got to hold you. Though personally I find the babies death one of the worst, no obe should leave a baby that young in the bath alone to talk on the phone, it was completely avoidable. Even if they would have died when older. I only now leave my son alone taking a bath yo grab a towel, but he's 4 and if he slips he's able to sit up again. Our bath mat is way to slippy for my liking, need a new one. Plus if I hear anything I can get to him in seconds, if I have to leave for longer I ask his 15y okd sister to sit and play with him while I grab the bapoy I forgot downstairs. Never leave babies in the bath alone. Their life will always be more important then that call, or a package at the door etc

I love the parallel between Edie and Edith. At the beginning of the story Edith says “I never thought I’d come back to it” in reference to the house. In Edie’s story she returns to the Old Finch House in the ocean and says “I’ve seen the house everyday of my life, but I never though I’d return to it.”

Bro, Edith died at 17 (Ty for pointing that out, I can't do math for crap :)). She said she was 22 weeks pregnant at 17, meaning she probably died during childbirth. Idk why it took me this long to realize that, I've watched gameplay for this game so many times before, but still, most of the family died as teenagers or younger, it's sad.

BROOOO I JUST REALISED!!!! The place shaking while Walter was in the bunker was actually the train passing by!! And the day he died.. he just went outside a little early or maybe the train was a little late…..
@aaaaaaaasdef3 ай бұрын
in edie’s room, there’s a news article titled “edie won’t go.” it states that she refuses to leave the house while the island is being evacuated due to a fire. it’s likely the reason she didn’t leave was because walter was still there. this could also be the reason why the train stopped for a week. unfortunately, the day walter got tired of being afraid was the day the train started again, just a few minutes late.

I don’t see many people here in the comments talking about how gut wrenching and breathtaking the dialogue is in this game, so I’m going to leave you my favorite quotes from the Finch family. They may be fictional characters in a video game, but these lines are some of the most relatable words I’ve ever heard; some even take emotions I myself have felt throughout my life, and turn them into beautiful, intoxicating sentences. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do :) “Nothing in the house looked abnormal, there was just too much of it; like a smile with too many teeth.” “I don’t want to make the same mistakes she made; trying to bury something that’s still alive.” “What kind of family finishes building a cemetery before starting the house?” “My imagination is as real as my body.” “I don’t want you to be sad that I’m gone, I want you to be amazed that any of us ever had the chance to be here at all.”

The game’s themes of grief, loss, and the power of storytelling are woven throughout the narrative, as Edith comes to terms with her family’s dark past and the secrets that have been hidden for so long. The game’s title, “What Remains of Edith Finch,” suggests that even in the face of loss and tragedy, there is still something left behind - a legacy, a story, or a memory that can be cherished and passed down to future generations.

I love this game so much. I love the juxtaposition of Edie and Dawn. Both obsessed with death but have completely opposite reactions to it. Edie clings to the dead and literally makes room in her house for the dead. Dawn, on the other hand, wants to forget the dead and avoid it at all costs. Edith represents the middle of the road. Remember the dead and hold their memory in your heart, but dont forget to live and make room for new experiences.

This whole story of how everyone dies is sad, Milton may be out there somewhere and no one knows it but its not certain. I feel like Edie likes telling the stories they way she did to cope with the fact that everyone honestly died from Neglect and not being cared for like they should've been. They all needed help and wanted to be seen by the adult figures in the house and were barely getting any so they wandered off in their own worlds and did things to get away and eventually died.

I just watched a gameplay of "The unfinished swan" and it explains what happened to Milton and where he went after walking through that door filled with nothing but light. I didn't understand Molly's death much until I looked it up so I'll explain to save people from the trouble!❤ Molly ate a whole tube of fluorinated toothpaste (enough to kill A CHILD) and then ate holly berries which are only lethal when someone eats like 20 (she had three which is enough to cause nausea,stomach pains,and HALLUCINATIONS because of the stress it puts on the body and lack of oxygen) so she most likely died in her bed due to the body stress and lack of oxygen. Barbara died at 16 when she was murdered and cannibalized(I think). The "monsters" she saw was the gang of hoodlums the radio announcer talked about. There was either a fight and her ear was torn off somehow or (what I think happened) they cannibalized her, cutting her up, and hid the bones or what they couldn't eat somewhere, maybe even inside the house.. which probably did leave Walter traumatized since he either heard or saw everything happen. Another theory I saw was that Rick killed Barbara for unknown reasons then fled the scene in a hurry, leaving one of his crutches behind which can be seen in Walter's bunker.

I just realized that Edith named her son (the player character at the beginning and end of the game) after Molly’s pet fish…and that the “mole man” Edie gave an interview about was actually Walter (at least that’s my take!)… oh and also that Milton left around drawings/murals about the other family members’ deaths that show up right before you experience them! (ie. the big cat before Molly’s story or the swing before Calvin’s one or the Jack-O-Lantern screaming before Barbara’s comic!) I think it also implies that Milton stuck around a bit after he went missing to make all these drawings or he did them before he disappeared since he was 11 at the time. It reminds me of a child drawing on the walls with crayons when they’re not supposed to…I’m gonna go cry again 😢 (Also am I the only one who thinks Walter sounds like Garfield?)

i think one of the most interesting parts of the lore is that this family "curse" was happening for *500 years prior* to Edie. in the beginning, this fact makes you think it really is a curse. but by the end, when you realize the "curse" is generational trauma, it's even more sad. it might seem like a lot, or over exaggeration, but that's actually very real if you think about it. we know trauma is passed down through generations by both teaching it and genetics. and we know that hundreds of years ago we were even more lost & clueless about parenting; a lot of people used to be complete monsters to their children in today's standards because they didn't have childhood development classes or scientific studies advocating against abuse. most people with generational trauma know that their own parents were bad, but their parents' parents were worse, and that as much as anyone alive knows, every generation before was worse than the one that came next. you can only imagine what types of trauma and parenting were happening 500 years ago to now, being handed down through the generations, and the Finch family is no different, albeit to an extreme degree.

I don't think I have a single thing I didn't like about it. The graphics didn't need to be hyper realistic and the musical score didn't need to be done by an elite symphony orchestra in order for the story to be amazing and I really think that the story was this game's strong point. hey< I just saw this game called "Still Wakes the Deep" and basically, it's a story-driven horror game set in the 1970s, where a group of oil rig workers encounter a terrifying cosmic horror deep beneath them in the ocean, I think you might like it since your based on horror games and story-driven games as well (sorry If my English sounds off, it is not my first language)

a few things I would love to mention. first: Edith's son is named Christopher (I love that little detail) second: Christopher (Edith's son) has a cousin named Monroe, the son of Milton. third: Monroe does not get mentioned in "What Remains of Edith Finch", but he does play the role of the main protagonist in "The Unfinished Swan" and that game shows what happened to Milton after he left the house!

Hey Eddie, glad to see you're finally playing this game! Sometimes it still random infects my brain which is weird, but probably a good sign for the game. Anyway! I've got a great game suggestion for you, though unfortunately I don't exactly expect for you to ever really see this or get to it, because it's not very well known, at all. It's an indie surreal/psychological horror game called 811. There's only a few playthroughs of it on KZbin. Personally, I think it ABSOLUTELY should be up there with games like Sally Face (hey, btw did you know there's a Sally Face 2 in the works?), Fran Bow, and Little Miss Fortune. So far, only chapter one is out, but there is a second game in the works. I'd adore to see you play this game, I can only IMAGINE all the jokes you'd have and how you'd react when all the freaky shit starts going down. PS: Incase you do see this, I think you should know that Ryker, the main character, is non-binary and uses They/Them pronouns, because you might be the first large KZbinr to play this game and it'd be unfortunate if people then started getting their pronouns wrong because it'd be the only impression they've got of the character.

Might do the thing where you go "DaY oNe oF sUgGeStInG..." for the next few days or so, because that seems to work sometimes.
The lesson of the game is to not make your kids go to sleep without any food

You can tell prior to the line where she says she was 22 weeks that Edith is pregnant via the line “The passages were a pretty tight fit…they’d obviously been built for smaller ands and bellies,” referring to her stomach whilst pregnant. 36:55 Edit: You can also tell even earlier ( 11:56 ) when you look down in the game, Edith’s stomach with the baby inside is visible, yet she later confirms she is pregnant after about 1/2 of the play-through of the game itself
