I had the privilege of seeing the late, great Chris Bailey open for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds back in 2003 in Toronto, Canada. He did a brief acoustic set which was like 5 songs or so - one was Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" and he ended with "Just Like Fire Would." I was elated b/c I was a Saints fan and love this song so much, but almost no one in the crowd cared about his set. He didn't respond negatively to the apathy; instead, he finished up and said, referring to the Bad Seeds, "You're about to see the best fucking rock n roll band on earth - you lucky bastards!" and then left the stage. What a classy guy. RIP.

I grew up next door to this singer. He was a nice gentle person, given the environment he had to endure as we did. My best friend was his niece Samantha, she was left in the care of his mother Bridgette was a kind woman. 100 Frangipani Street, Inala would have been in his memory for his life as 98 is in mine. I hope you enjoyed booze, food and all the fruits of life my neighbour, as you deserved it. Sorry I was only a kid when you guys where in that place banging out Stranded, it should have been heard by people with love for your music. xxx

Chris Bailey has passed and the music industry has lost a truly remarkable singer, writer and performer. "Just Like Fire Would " in my opinion was Magnificent. Decades on it's still Brilliant. The Words to this Song shared a story of the lives living in a town and their struggles. RIP Chris Bailey

What an amazing song by a brilliant band. Just Like Fire Would tells the story of Life In the 70's It is so Australian. The Video and this song Highlights Everything Australians went through all those decades ago. Why Weren't The Saints More Popular? They were Brilliant and Chris Bailey was in my Opinion a Legend. The Music Industry has lost a truly wonderful person. I met Chris at a live Show in Sydney more than 25 years ago. It was a pleasure meeting this man who was so humble and so compassionate about life. Chris Bailey at just age 65 has passed away and we've lost a musical genius. RIP Chris Bailey

Lions Soccer Club just down the rd behind that bush,played for them 79/80..I hold back tears every time i watch this..& sometimes i let em go...thanks Chris,, obviously you felt the same.. I heard Wild About You one night about 20 years ago on a radio show about the history of Punk music in South Africa. Yes the Saints made it all the way to there :-) I was BLOWN AWAY and it remains one of my favourite songs to listen to and to play (I made sure to work it out and transcribe it). Their influence on what became punk is now well-known and legendary. Its not too crazy to say the world might not have had Ramones, Green Day, Offspring et al and down Blink 182 without The Saints. This song reminds me of another strain of punk rock made by bands like The Replacements, he has the same clever lyrcism, word play (fire would / firewood) and anti-rock star demeanour. RIP Chris
@ailurophile17
@ailurophile17 Жыл бұрын
@@eiremike1 Funny you'd mention the Replacements since I found Chris Mars' first solo album on vinyl just a few weeks ago and even though it's over 30 years old, I'm hearing it for the first time and it's pretty darn fantastic. I agree with you on just about everything, although I think the Ramones were there first. Great scene in Oz with the fabulous Hoodoo Gurus and the Church and Hunters & Collectors & the Sports and Mental As Anything and all the Split Enz and Crowded House & Finn New Zealanders. And what about the Easybeats and Daddy Cool?
