My grandfather used to own a bunch of that bottomland.. we’d go to the bottoms to cut and bale hay. Lots of days he’d drop me off at the river and tell me to catch a mess of fish for dinner. I wish I could go back and re-live those days. It was an integral part of who I am. Kinda makes me sad that I was too young to really appreciate the significance of it all. Love you papaw.

How To Live In Harmony With Nature And Reduce Pollution 1. Many Production Companies Which We Do Not Need Actually For Human Beings Has To Be Stopped We manufacture so many products and it is creating pollution. So if we minimise our products, pollution would be less. We produce so many things which we do not need, like cold drinks, leather products, potato wafers, chips, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc. Cold drinks, fruit juices, pickles, ice creams, etc. Should be cooked at home only. If we stopped producing this things which are not required for humans, so much pollution could be reduced. If we colour the clothes pollution occurs. So if we don't colour our clothes, the pollution resulting from colouring the clothes can be stopped. Let everything remain in white natural colour. 2. We Should Cook Foods In Its Natural Form We can cook rice and wheat in our homes and eat it. Rice and Wheat is produced in farms. Then it is packed and transported to big warehouses, then wholesalers buy from them and supply to retail shops. But if a manufacturing company makes bread from rice and wheat, then to make bread a manufacturing company has to be set up, machines and working staffs are needed. When a company is built many other things are also needed. Then at last a plastic pack is required to pack the breads. So if we start cooking eatable things in its natural form then we do not need many companies like bread manufacturing company, tomato ketchup, noodles, fruit jam, pizza, burger, etc., the things required for the company and the plastic pack, paper box pack and glass bottles. If done like this, so many companies will not be required and hence less pollution for the world. Also we could save our money like this. If you buy a packet of bread, it would cost you more money than if you cook wheat and rice in home. Previously before industrial revolution, we didn't have technology, but our foods were rich with nutrients. Now we have technology, but technology is polluting our foods and our foods are not rich with nutrients, and because of that also we have health problems. If this is done, then many jobs would be lost. For that many peoples should do farming and they should be given loans if they do not have enough money to start farming on their own. Food, Medicines, Surgeries and Education's should be made free to the world till the world settles down with farming. After that food, medicines, surgeries and education's should be stopped free to the world. Many people should study botany subject so that they have knowledge of plants and they should do farming. Is their any another solution, that humans won't lose jobs and also pollution would decrease. Humans have to take this step certainly instead of going on polluting the earth, making wildlife extinct and also mass extinctions of humans in future. 3. Electricity Pollution We create electricity from many types of sources like coal, water, etc., but it creates pollution. If electricity created from windmill and solar energy then no pollution occurs in the creation process. But still to manufacture windmill and solar machines pollution would occur. As I previously said that if we shut down many manufacturing companies which are producing things which are not needed for humans, then the world would not require so much electricity. If less electricity required, then less pollution generated. 4. Could We Stop Drinking Cow's and Buffalo's Milk Whatever vitamins and nutrients we get from milk, if we can get it from other eatable things, then we can stop drinking cow's and buffalo's milk. As milk has to be packed in glass bottles and plastic packs and then transported to places. All of this can be stopped. For infants whose mother's have died or mother's who cannot breast feed their infants, only for them cow's and buffalo's milk should be given. We use milk in tea and coffee. Instead of milk we must use lime with tea and coffee or just plain tea and coffee. A lime should be cut into a few pieces and cooked with tea and coffee or something else can be used instead of lime. 5. How Much Should Be The World's Population Every place should have a single house. No buildings, everything ground floor. If we do this and the whole lands of our planet earth would be occupied one day with homes, farms, forests, schools, hospitals, etc., then we would come to know how much our planet earth can have maximum population. Once the population is determined, then we have to maintain that population. For example if our earth can have a population of 10 billion peoples, then when the population reaches 10 billion, then everyone should have only one child till the population reaches 9 billion peoples. As if we have only one child then the population decreases. When population is 9 billion peoples, then everyone should have 2 children's till the population reaches 10 billion peoples. After that again we should have only one child. In this way population can be maintained.

AN ARTISTIC NARRATIVE: I just completed a viewing of Rob Reep's THE SALINE documentary, and I am deeply moved by his narrative. Full of history and folklore, with interviews of some of those who grew up along its banks, as well as with former Arkansas statesmen--including former Governor, David Pryor--THE SALINE is also an important herald of the ever-present threat that short-sighted men pose to the natural world. From the haunting strains of wind instruments, invoking the long-departed Native Americans who first inhabited the area, to the tales of post-World War II teenagers partying past midnight upon its shores, one cannot but be affected by the story of this beautiful, free-flowing river. I have been educated, entertained, and...touched,,,by what is essentially a work of art....

A beautiful and informative video. Living in the wild north of Michigan's Upper Peninsula I don't know much about Arkansas. Now at least I know about your wonderful Saline River. P.S. - For years Michigan's DNR would not admit that there are cougars living in the Upper Peninsula. They finally broke down and acknowledged that the cats are here.

Raised all four of my sons in these bottoms between Mahoneys Ferry & White Oak Landing. Nothing but woods between our house and land and the river ( about a mile ). That river and its bottoms fed me , husband and my kids. My grandmother use to wash my hair as I grew up. Miss it. We still have our home & property where my youngest son is raising his four sons. The cycle continues. ❤

I grew up in Bryant on Hwy 5. My grandparents would take my brothers and sisters and myself down to Saline River down by Tull. We would fish all day and have a picnic lunch on the banks of the river. I remember being a small little girl riding in Grandpa's flat-bottomed boat holding his 22 rifle as we would float down to where he had limbhooks set. Grandpa would say, " keep an eye on the water surface sister, if it wiggles shoot it. That's how I learned to shoot a rifle. Good times, Sir, Really good times. Thank you for the good you do.

I lived in Benton and Haskill both in 1962-1968 I was on the River Bridge when Greg Sawyer and his friend were hit by the Freight Train, there was 2 Tracks in those days, the MoPac and the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad Rock Island Line Johnny Cash sang about. The TwoHigh School Seniors were hanging out, Me and Tony Pelton were Playing Hookie from Junior High on the Wooden Bridge [which has iron structure] every spring the entire River Bottoms would flood, when I worked for the City Barn with Earl Hicks we often had to go clear trash from the bridge, in 1965 I had summer work for the County/ City and also remember the Old Saline River Bridge we had to Cross carrying Brush to the City Dump, Pauline Hicks was my Girl Friend she was a Rag-Picker on the City Dump, later that Bridge Collapsed with a Old Yankee who Went Around the Guard "Bridge Closed" Barriers and died of a Heart Attack. The River was where Everybody went to Drink Beer and Swim or Smooch. I played Lead Guitar at the Benton Country Jamboree and took lessons from Lloyd Nickolas a Steel Guitar Wizzard, but he has Epeleptics (Like lots of people did in 1960's and 1950's. ) I lived at 923 River St, Benton, AR 72015 Doctor Sawyer was my Dentist my Family worked at Benton State Hospital Colony 1950's through Mother's Death 1975. I remember Patients getting run over on the Old Railroad from Benton across Lonsdale up Highway 88 to Hot Springs, we moved to Hot Springs in 1968 and lived on Spring Street [Old Highway 88} Morning Star community and the tracks were still there.

Great job on this! Thank you for 'taking me back'! I grew up in Wlmar & Warren, camped by, fished, floated and swam in the Saline. Seeing this work, with the beauty of the all the scenery makes me homesick! I know a lot has changed since the late 70's, but I'd love to be back to spend a day, week, ?month? - and wander the river bottoms again. Thanks again to everyone who had a part in making this, for all the hard work and a job well done! This rivals, even exceeds, the quality of documentaries on cable channels! KUDOS! // Steve S. //

I was Baptised at Horse Head, south of Longview via Eden Church.My family owned the Bolin Mill. Our fish camp was where the Bridge is now standing. I use to ride the Ferry there. Davis family now owns most of the river property along there. Dr. Ron Mosley has been my family's long time Pastor & Friend. He has many pictures of our family in his book. After the Vietnam War, I lived on the Saline for 6 months . Very good Documentary, profound memories.

Got to love a state that had not only the Saline River shown here, but ANOTHER Saline River that feeds Dierks Lake west of Garland County. It is very rugged and beautiful over there, completely different terrain. To differentiate I tried calling the one in this video "Suh-LEEN" River (accent on second syllable) like the county and the one near Dierks "SA-leen" River (accent on first syllable). Yeah...Love Arkansas and miss living there

My brother and my friends along with me would jump off the train trestle that crossed the saline river behind lake Georgia Pacific in Ashley county close to Crossett Arkansas. It’s a wonder none of us drowned in the saline river doing that. Many times late at night. We also camped at our grandparents river camp in Longview. I miss those days.

This really hit home, my father Carl Brown told me about the canon down in long view and fishing often in warren I always wondered what was up with the big rocks just up from warren bridge and always big catfish by the train tracks well up river from there where the steam ship went down in those deep holes, it’s cool learning the history of the places you fished for years

That canoe that Mr Green found was brought back from South America in the 60’s and given to the Boy Scouts at Camp Quapaw where it wash away in a flood. They tested the wood and found it was not native to Arkansas. I remember seeing this at Camp Quapaw in the early 60’s. If I remember correctly a sign painter from Bauxite was involved in the history of that boat, Jabo Edmanson who died in 2013.

I hate to tell you bud but there is black panther in Arkansas as a matter of fact. I have seen the creature a few times in my 64 years of living. Panther Creek proved its name as I witnessed a black panther cross at dusk as the creek is an overflow of the Saline River. A black panther was struck by a car while crossing the Saline at Kingsland, Ar.

There are Black Panthers in the area- I have literally seen them with my own eyes- one of which (with cubs) was between Shirley and Turkey Creek Township near Mountain View and Fox, Arkansas. All panthers in the Americas are melanistic Jaguars unless someone brings in leopards from Africa, which could have melanistic traits, thus rendering them as black panthers.

You have to be from up North. Anyone who was raised or grew up in Arkansas knows for a fact there are panthers in Arkansas. Most spotted panthers are located in the Ozark area such as rural area between Springdale/Tonitiown / Wheeler and then rare scattered sightings in North Central areas around Lake Norfork, Mountain Home, Henderson areas. and even a few spottings up and down the Delta regions. So if you don't believe there are panthers and Mountain Lions in Arkansas you are just about as stupid as it gets. Perhaps it was a good thing you stopped watching it at that point because more than likely the the whole video was to far over your head anyway.
@Skydog3

A panther is a cougar. Arkansas has cougars. But when ppl say they are black, they're 100% lying. *Cougars, scientifically CANNOT be black. That's a fact.* Think I'm dumb? Look it up. Scientists can't even breed one. Theres 0 proof in the history of the world that Black Panthers exist.
