Here’s great evidence of that horn being OP lol. Diminishing returns on the knockback or a short immunity period after being affected. The fact you can literally single handedly keep both ladders defended with minimal effort is the definition of overpowered and it’s also very annoying from the other end.

Pretty sure this comment is unlikely to get a response but I'm willing to try as I am desperate for anyone in the community to reply. Why the combat so hard though and what am I doing wrong? I have played since season 1, I pick the game up for a couple weeks every once in a while because I absolutely love the premise. However, I am always pushed away by the absolutely monstrous skill floor. I've picked it up again recently, and I am desperate to be able just to play. I love the ship combat, it feels challenging and rewarding, and when I get outgunned on a ship I feel like I had fun. There is obvious skill progression with a lot of room for progress. I get one boarder though and my entire ship falls apart and we're sunk in 30 seconds. This happens so consistently and everywhere I've turned to just says "practice the combat" but there's hardly a chance to when we are obliterated instantly and spawn camped to oblivion. I can't learn anything without an opportunity, and it is not fun, as much as I desperately want it to be. How can I avoid having to know a long term player that can carry me to learning something? How can I solve the problem or at least somehow make these repeated beatdowns fun?

I’m a fairly average pirate and I used to feel the same way and was in the same situation. If you want to learn solo and don’t want to get a crew mate my best suggestion is to forgot the boat and go on the offensive. Try to board boats and just have fun. Eventually you will learn some things instinctively and it won’t be as scary when you get boarded. Play around with the different weapons until you find something that you are comfortable with and don’t forget throwables. And watch content creators and their guides, knowledge is half the battle. HitboTC and Phuzzy are great for general knowledge and guides. If you want to be more sneaky watch more HitboTC or Ma5on they are excellent at thinking outside of the box and sneaky shenanigans. If you want to get into the more sweaty side of sea of thieves I recommend Massive Sponge for hourglass and KaiJoi for advanced team work and role guides. Oh and if you are having trouble with any tall tales or commendations Rare Thief is wonderful too. I hope you keep coming back to the Sea of Thieves it truly is a magical place. The only thing about this game that genuinely and royally peeeeeisses me off at the moment is the game chat.. basic EVERY server i want to stay on i (and most times multiple other ppl) have to alt+f4 and rejoin before we can hear anyone in game. So annoying
