Binged it in one whole day. No regrets. It's so fucking good. The show is phenomenal. The actors are simply perfect. The cinematography, the score, the special effects, the overarching story telling- all absolutely stellar! I have not read the comics, a part of me want to after seeing just how good this world and characters are but another part of me doesnt want to as I love the idea of going in blind, not having a single clue as to what could happen next ✨
@starie97172 жыл бұрын
HI hi! I've read and collected the comics. You'll be surprised (I def am) about how much the Netflix live-action version stuck to the original source material. I think it was a very captivating experience, all things considered, I contemplated watching the series in the first place because I was scared of it ruining my beloved comic. However, I will point out the key differences that I've noticed: 1. Definitely less diversity and queerness in the comics. Most characters in the comics are white, straight, and/or a man. They feature some notable female characters (from the comic version of Season 1, I would count 2, maybe 3, if I'm being honest), but not as many as we see in the Netflix version. Not to discredit the current casting choices, I think they did a great portrayal of the comic characters and definitely took time to flesh them out. **I will note that in the later comics, as in the equivalent of Season 2 and so on, Gaiman adds a little more representation/flexibility with the characters which was a pleasant surprise. 2. Comics lean towards the graphic details and brutal side for shock value (ie slurs, criminal activity stuff). The John Dee and the Cereal Convention arc were both uncomfortable for me to read, but understandable given the premises of the stories.
@annamuller122 жыл бұрын
Both of the tv series and comics are great. There are some differences between the source material and adaptation but there's also some dialogue and shots that are like almost completely as they were in the comics. One of the biggest differences - aside from diversity and violence as mentioned by [starie] - is also the fact that the comics are set in the DC universe (for example Scarecrow from Batman briefly appears as he's an inmate in the mental hospital where John Dee is and Lyta Halls storyline is also a bit different due to her origin) whereas the show is its own universe with Superman and co just being fictional characters. I think there were some licencing reasons so the series wasn't allowed to use characters that were already part of different shows and movies to avoid having too many versions of the same character and not cause any confusion. This also one of the reasons that we got the wonderful Jenna Coleman in a dual role instead of John Constantine.

We need to understand that being at the top of the pyramid of creation means that everything we do trickles down the structure, from top to bottom. When it reaches the bottom, the inanimate level of reality, from which everything grows, it changes it. If we ooze ill-will, it creates negative changes throughout the system, which manifest in increasingly extreme climatic and geological events. In other words, when human relationships go out of balance, everything goes out of balance. When our relations become extreme, everything becomes extreme; when we become violent, everything becomes violent. Each summer, the ramifications of the linkage between our relations and our world become more extreme, until we acknowledge that everything that exists, exists in a connected, hierarchical system and that whoever is at the top determines the state of the rest of the system. It is not as if previously, we were better people than we are today. It is simply that there were fewer people, and therefore fewer elements that exude ill will. Also, relationships between people in the past were less toxic than they are today. While there are fewer wars today than ever, the levels of suspicion and alienation between people are skyrocketing, to the point where people can no longer trust their own family members. As a result, wars between countries are rarer than ever, but divorce rates, domestic violence, and violence in the community, are at an all-time high. Even the internet, which we invented purportedly in order to connect people, is being used to abuse, deceive, and exploit people. The world-wide-web proves that everything we create, we use against others. When there is such a negative element in a system, and that element is at the top of the system, how can the entire system not go awry? Therefore, if we want the weather to cool, the sea-level to drop, and the storms to subside, we must cool the fire and calm the storms between us. Mutual concern, mutual responsibility, or at least the knowledge that we are dependent on each other, are necessary in order to restore balance in our world at all levels, from the ground we walk on to the hatred in our hearts.

According to an interview (I forgot if it was Tom or Neil) that was the 1st look they went for but it failed the screen test and the crowd test. Neil himself said that Dream is not supposed to stand out in a crowd in New York City or in London "They may feel a presence but visually he shouldn't stand out. He should be able to blend in." And when they tested it with the more comic faithful make up of the long hair, pale white skin and black contacts, Tom stood out too much that people noticed right away. That's why they went with the look he currently has.
