I have been discovering Irish folk tunes for some time now. Never knew about this one before. Although Ireland + Scotland is quite marvelous in terms of beautiful landscape. In my opinion the inspiration for this tune is from some amazing landscapes in Pakistan mostly undiscovered due to obvious reason. BTW I am from Pakistan.

Tricky, this tune was composed by flute player Niall Kenny, who lived in Edinburgh, so it’s technically a Scottish tune! Commonly played on the Scottish bagpipes too, though faster.

no shortage of talent there. nice arrangements too. its odd there's not a much bigger following with such nicely organized songs as are in this band. nevertheless, its a flawless performance the arrangements are very good and the musicians execution of the music could'nt be better. overall its a great video. thanks.

Mr Graham Lindsey..I would like to ask you, if you know the history behind the title of this tune "Trip to Pakistan" then please let me know..?
@sbh0214 жыл бұрын
one guy is even playing a "tabla", and the tune seems to be a mixture of Irish and classic Eastern... its no coincidence that the title has "Pakistan" in it, although I do not know what the story is... did she visit Pakistan or something?

No, just the name of the tune! I didn't write the piece, we merely arranged it as a band.

How on earth did an Irish tune get to be named after my home country?
@stephanpopp621011 ай бұрын
Don't know, but the rhythm is quite uncommon for an Irish reel. Though the melody is simple, I hardly can avoid a knot in my fingers. There seem to be influences of the Hindustani Roopak Tal rhythm in it, but they are twisted to fit the 4/4 pattern of the reel more or less (instead of 3/2/2 = 7 of Roopak). Parts 1 and 2 are a 7/9 pattern rather than two 4/4 patterns, part 3 is 3/3/2 instead of 4/4. The chord sequence isn't typically Irish either, and the melody is anything but pentatonic.

Why isn't the harper doing anything? She could at least be knocking on her instrument like it's a drum.
