The Sarnat Neurologic Examination for Newborns

The Sarnat exam provides a method of quickly determining the presence and relative severity of neonatal encephalopathy. The exam is meant to be performed within 6 hours of birth as therapeutic cooling, the treatment for encephalopathic babies, is most effective when started early. In this video, Dr. Courtney Wusthoff demonstrates the practical aspects of performing the Sarnat exam.
