I actually worked at the original location where Herb developed the Egg McMuffin, the Goleta store off of Fairview. According to my boss, Herb while he was inspired by the early morning foot traffic on the State Street, he did a lot of the experimenting at the Goleta location. I worked there the summer of 2016 while they gutted the 90's interior and replaced it with a shrine to the egg McMuffin and Herb, including the original prototype egg ring behind a bulletproof glass box. At the same time David Peterson actually was going through a nasty divorce and sold off all but two (according to my boss) of his location,Golata Fairview and Goleta Storke Rd) to another Franchisee from Carpinteria including the coveted State Street location, which is shame because the employee orientation room behind the State Street location is bedecked with awards and historical memorabilia. I've only met David in passing a couple of times as an employee (the franchise office is literally a little house next to the Fairview location). If you're ever in the Goleta area for breakfast go to the Fairview location and go inside and look at the giant mural of Herb on the wall while you eat your McMuffin its a interesting experience.

It was 1974 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana... at the McDonalds at 4615 Perkins Road. That building has been replaced by a newer one in recent years, the internet tells me, but the location is the same. My maternal grandmother asked the manager what was in them and she made more at home for me. 😊

You missed an almost forgotten aspect of the Egg McMuffin. While they were test marketing it, it wasn't served in the box we get nowadays. Instead, it came in a flat tray, open faced, with a small tub of strawberry preserves on the side. I remember having it this way multiple times at the McDonalds near the University of Wisconsin Campus in Madison in late 1972. The first couple times my American upbringing rejected the idea of sweet and savory, but on about the third time I put the preserves on the sandwich before closing it up. They are delicious this way, and I don't like to eat one any other way. Yes, it's not on the menu, but McDonalds still offers packets of strawberry preserves to those in the know.

I never tried a McMuffin, but I have tried Burger King's croissantwich and hashbrowns! They are delicious IMO, maybe it's my local Burger King that does them well? I saw the Burger Chef clip and got sad, considering all of the wasted potential the defunct chain had. They even made a kid's meal before Mcdonald's did! I'd love to see Weird History videos on Burger Chef and Jack In The Box. For Jack In The Box, PLEASE talk about the 1970s era, as nobody ever seems to mention that era of JITB. Rodney Allen Rippy was their spokesperson, but Jack In The Box also had an animated version of Jack, as well as other characters, as their mascots throughout the 70s. Unfortunately, only three commercials [Baseball, In The Park, Jack In The Box animated commercial 1970s], and three comics [How A House Makes Noise, Where Oil Comes From, How Pain Helps Us] are on KZbin, but I'm glad we even have those considering how poorly documented pre 90s JITB history is. Paul Winchell, best known as the voice of Tigger from Winnie The Pooh, did the voices of 70s era Jack and the other characters. It's most noticeable with Jack himself and Onion Ring Thing.

Loved Egg McMuffins with a side of hash browns. Best when fresh, lol. I stopped eating Egg McMuffins when they hit like, $3. I don't even go to McD's anymore. As a matter of fact, I stopped most fast foods when my doc threatened to put me on meds.... 😁

They're easier then you think once you get a little practice. I make these for my family twice a week; usually ham but sometimes sausage & even occasionally thin-sliced steak. and you haven't seen a price per sandwich like this since the 80's. We call them *"MockMuffins"* 😉 Muffins ($3.44 ÷ 10) Eggs ($6.53 ÷ 18) Cheese ($13.97÷ 72) Ham ($5.44 ÷ 7) ----------------------- *MockMuffin $1.67* Muffins ($3.44 ÷ 10) Eggs ($6.53 ÷ 18) Cheese ($13.97÷ 72) Ham ($5.44 ÷ 7) Hash B. Pattie ($2.98 ÷ 10) 12oz Coke ($8.00 ÷ 12) ---------------------------- *MockMuffin Combo $2.63* Muffins ($3.44 ÷ 10) Eggs ($6.53 ÷ 18) Cheese ($13.97÷ 72) Ham ($5.44 ÷ 7) Hash B. Pattie ($2.98 ÷ 10) 12oz Coke ($8.00 ÷ 12) Silicone Ring mold $3.27 ---------------------------- *MockMuffin Combo* *+ Cost of equipment $5.90* ... and STILL cheaper than that single Egg McMuffin in Darien, Connecticut ($7.29)

We had a semi fast food seafood place called "Skippers" when I was growing up. Sure miss that one. Had a really good basic menu for sea food.

Breakfast is what I get when i go to McDonald's. Plus iced coffee. However, learning that sooners are a bunch of breakfast rebels made me laugh.

My favorite McDonalds breakfast item has been discontinued. I don't remember what it was called, but it was essentially a "steak" sandwich using a bagel, onions, and a garlic sauce.

I used to get the McGriddle but the McMuffin is the way to go without cheese but add bacon.

99.9% of the time I eat very healthily but maybe twice a year I’d walk over my granny for a Sausage McMuffin with Egg.

I worked in Pittsburgh PA for McDonald's from 1982-1984! The Mcfuffen was a Breakfast Staple! Breaking two eggs at a time was what made you to the top for cooking them! It's said that today It is Still the Only Item That is Cooked to Order! Between that and the Double Cheeseburger?! Only Things I order from Them! Oh!! The Memories!

Dude, when you mentioned McDonald's discontinuing it's breakfast time cutoff, I was sooooo expecting a Michael Douglas Falling Down reference. That would have been epic! Good vid all the same overall. Big fan! Cheers.
