I am in Lebanon, Ohio, to visit the grave of Michael Larson, the man who outsmarted the television game show Press Your Luck. Is he a scam artist or just a brilliant genius? You decide.

I watched the Michael Larson episode as a kid when it aired. I called the network and asked how he did that. They didn't know. His timing was off on a few occasions and he could have lost it all. Luck was on his side that day. I give him credit and he did nothing wrong he deserved his money. After he won he got greedy and got into trouble. This is a lesson for anyone who obtains a lot of money, it can be a curse. I hope he is resting peaceful. Everyone has made mistakes and done wrong to people. Thanks for your video and showing where his grave is.

Kind of reminds me of the guy on “The Price Is Right”. He guessed the exact price and moved on to the big money prize. He guessed the exact price. Good story, Lamont. Those game shows don't tell the public everything. I know a woman who was on the Price Is Right and won a brand new car. After she won it, she found out that she had to pay thousands of dollars in taxes on the car. Sure, she won the car, but still paid thousands in taxes on the car. The Price Is Right probably figured some people would just decide not to take the car. She felt misled, and decided to give the car to her mother.

Not The Price Is Right shows fault.... thank your government. Now you can't even sell more than $600 of items that you already paid taxes on without paying taxes on it AGAIN when you sell it... unless you kept the original receipt from years ago and can prove a loss, but nobody keeps a receipt to a CD they bought in 2008. For example, you want to sell a CD on ebay.... you paid taxes when you originally purchased it, the person you sold it to paid taxes on it when they bought it from you, and now you get to pay taxes on it a second time! Thanks JOE and the Dems! Now ask yourself why they want to do away with cash and have all digital currency.

All the game shows are like that! You have to pay taxes and also file it as income too! it's her fault for not knowing that.
@bobbysmela3942

actually prize money is considered income for some reason, so the government expects you to pay income tax. Guess what we the American People are NOT required to pay income tax in any form, including prize money. I bought and read Income Tax Shattering the Myth, and it's an eye opener, on who the income tax actually applies to and it doesn't apply to 98% the American People. That includes taxes on prizes. please buy and read the book, you will be shocked and ticked off how the government has been scamming the American People.

Fabulous. This is a fabulous story. I’ve never heard of it before. I’m Gen X and I remember watching press your luck on those days off from school when I was in elementary school. But I don’t remember that man or the story behind it. This is so fascinating. Great research and I love the way that you talked about it you’re a real natural storyteller and I appreciate you bringing these more unusual cases to the forefront. Now I want to go watch that press your luck game if it’s on YT. Thanks!

I used to watch this show as a kid. I remember the contests as they spun used to say "Big bucks,no whammy and stop" as they hit the button and sometimes they would get the whammy, other times the money, but this guy played the game perfectly, and beat them at their own game. They were just soar loosers just like the casinos that don't like you counting cards cause the rich always want to get richer.R.I.P. and you were very smart and did well for yourself, even if it was only for a short time.

He won it fair and square as he played by the rules. I’m sure the game show learned a lesson and fixed their patterns afterwards but he won fairly Imo. It’s like blackjack at the casino, you can learn to count cards in their head (few can) but it’s just beating them at their own game. The casinos have learned to detect card counting these days but in the early days they couldn’t.

Thanks Lamont! this reminds me of the old couple that figured out one of the lottery scratchers they made the news, they didn’t scam anybody of course but they were able to somehow configure one particular game that is what this guy did. what he did later in life about scamming anybody in a manner that harms people, that’s a completely different topic, but I think if someone’s intelligent enough to find a weakness in a game well like you said, he thought he was going to beat them at their own game In a way he did.🤷🏻‍♀️

Figuring out that there is a pattern and devising a strategy to use that to your advantage is NOT cheating. He outfoxed the gameshow and made all of them look like a**holes. Well played sir!

If you dont know that show man you must have been living under a rock. That was one of the most popular game shows back in the 80's. The yr when all of this went down I would've been around 4 & don't remember it from then but as I got older I would watch the re-runs & I do remember this episode. He didn't scam he simply figured the pattern that's all

Yes, you do tell the story better, Lamont! And, no, he was not a scammer. It was a flaw in the game show, the guy figured it out and used it to his advantage. Too bad the game show didn't change the patterns to avoid this problem!

If I remember correctly I think they did. The old pattern was a repeating pattern, when they changed it it was to a program that never repeated the same pattern twice.
