I knew right away when he said he designed it himself that it was the hotel of nightmares. That story is a real one, someone was designed hotels that had obvious escape routes for victims but when they would open the doors they would be cement walls behind doors or they would take a staircase that led to nowhere, Look up Henry Howard Holmes, he is a real person. Not only did construction workers die but he was constantly firing and hiring in perfect sequence so that no one knew the full layout of his hotel. He didn't want anybody to know more than a little bit about his plans. It's a really interesting story and also who Evan peters character James March is based off of in American horror story hotel

The animations and voice acting are terrible compared to their previous games. Half the time the characters aren't even looking at eachother when they're talking and the intro dialouge was some of the worst I've seen in a long time. I also noticed a lot of weird buggy things interrupting the cutscenes and quicktime events. Having bugs and glithes in a game like this completely ruins immersion which is the entire appeal to these interactive movies.

51:03 the inside faces of the fence rings aren't rendered because the devs probably thought a fence pole would always be occupying the space inside them and i'm super glad someone mentioned it at 51:23 with the "backface culling on that"

I am a game designer/developer we only render objects (polygons) that the players would only see in the game, things that arent seen are deleted for example a book shelf, i would only keep the faces that visible in the game however the bottom piece and sometimes the back piece of book shelf are often deleted because the floor is covering the bottom piece and the back is sometimes covered by a wall sometimes not at all depends what we are trying to achieve. Just like this scene with the gate and rings, there suppose to be a pole there but think the devs missed it. We delete those unseen faces to save us time in terms of easier to model, uv map, textures and especially rendering since that takes 50% of the workflow it takes days/weeks/months depends the complexity of the model and having to render multiple passes of the polygons to get the best results

@@Jekker1435 any dev should, it's why when you fall through the level or get into a place you're not supposed to be in that you can see through a lot of the objects. that's why this scene is so jarring because they pretty much do a close up during a cutscene to the fence and the rings look wonky. this is just oversight, there's not supposed to be a pole there specifically, it's just that every other use of the fence model likely does have a pole in it. they probably have set pieces that they use to build up an environment(would make sense for the hotel area) and block it in to save time and probably have a singular fence model that would normally have a pole inside the ring sections but they'd have either needed to make a new fence segment specifically for that gate to open or have their likely singular fence model have the inner rings rendered so they're all like that.

@@nilbog_ not sure where you getting this ideas but most of what you said is wrong. players fall through maps not because of objects being one sided and being able to see through, that has nothing to do actually. Players fall through the map if a dev forgot to make the object (physical) with the player, for example each part of the floor has to be physical, same with any other models i.e walls, doors, props anything intractable for players or the game, just because props are modelled is does not make 100% hard object that can interact with the world around it, the dev has manually have to turn on feature for that prop, same with environment modelling it’s essentially the same concept but with environment its more focus on environment props like trees, rocks, buildings, anything you see outside your own home and this is quite hard because of the vast area that environment modeller has to cover and that all depends how big the map, this results lots of players falling out of the map. also reason why this takes time to fix from devs is because they have to re-render the level again with the fixed object, look at cyberpunk, lots of bugs and took forever to fix the game, its not because of the bug itself but devs has to render the entire level to fix it. However with the gate, there will be a pole inside of those rings, where the pole went i have no idea, i did not work on the game. there is no reason for a dev to delete faces unless there is another object blocking it from being seen. I know what i am talking about because its my profession and currently building a game with other devs/designers/animators/concept artists the workflow is nothing you see on youtube its a lot more tedious and it does take a lot time and that side you dont see on youtube, on youtube its usually getting from point a (concept) straight to z (finished game) they dont show the rest of alphabet because then its an entire show with seasons with 20+ episodes maybe quick sneak peaks of modelling, textures, lighting within those seasons LOL

YES they should get rid of the inside rings because a fence pole is NORMALLY occupying that space, in this case it is NOT however that decision is ENTIRELY INTENTIONAL because the gate that they open in the cutscene wouldn't be able to open if there was a pole going through the rings of the two sides of the fence, that much is very obvious, my original statement was that if they wanted to correct that blantant issue, it'd be to either have ONE fence asset where the inner faces of the fence rings aren't removed so that visual in the cutscene doesn't exist OR have TWO fence assets, one with the rings backfaces culled, and the other not to be specifically used in this cutscene. the falling through the level/getting to inaccessible areas tidbit was an example of certain faces on objects not being rendered because there's no intention of being able to see objects/assets from that angle, i'm not saying that the reason you can do that is because the back faces aren't rendered.
