CujoSuki Hmmmm. Well, I can't say I know of anyone who uses a select fire rifle chambered in an intermediate caliber as their home defense weapon. I do know people who use AR-15 and AKM rifles that are appropriately outfitted to enhance target identification and acquisition. I personally believe an AR-15 or a full size double stack 9mm handgun is the best choice for HD. Your opinion may differ.

As a black powder shooter and bullet caster,you guys would be amazed at the performance of pure lead round balls. They flatten out to a very large diameter,yet hold together due to excellent cohesion qualities of lead. They have been used to drop the largest animals in the world,with devastating effectiveness.

I'm so torn. I really love the engineering behind projectiles like this. However, the critical thinking portion of my brain refuses to see a projectile that intentionally sheds mass as an effective round. I'm sure that this is devastating to soft tissue. What shotgun slug isn't? Nonetheless, I enjoyed the video!
@lawrence172018 жыл бұрын
if you ever had to shoot someone on drugs you would appreciate a shell like this. I shot a man on drugs with steel foul shot and after catching the man on drugs it took us another hour before it was known that he was shot. Every shoot someone and they got back up and fired back at you?
@wreck_ignition78478 жыл бұрын
Lawrence M. I haven't shot anyone that got back up. I can't see how that would change with a shotgun. I've also never shot someone just to wound them. I have seen how other ammunition with 'petals' tested against flesh and bone and they never do well with ribs. It's still pretty cool looking.
@bepis26798 жыл бұрын
But when it loses mass, the velocity increases, and as a result the kinetic energy increases.
@wreck_ignition78478 жыл бұрын
Seymore Butts. The velocity doesn't increase. Throw a handful of marbles into the air. When they separate, their rate of deceleration is not altered. Unless this projectile has a secondary propulsion system that I didn't see. Are these made by NASA?
@bepis26798 жыл бұрын
It's called conservation of momentum. If the projectile has a given momentum, rho, (rho = m*a) it is the product of the projectiles mass and acceleration. If the projectile loses mass, it must gain acceleration to conserve its original momentum. That means it has a higher velocity. Kinetic Energy = (1/2)m*v^2 The velocity makes up more of the energy than the mass.

Are these slugs used in the military or just for hunting? The amount of energy and the expansion of the petals make it a nightmare.
@LCARS432787 жыл бұрын
A spline shaft of the right diameter and spline count could be cored out almost up to the valleys but with enough metal left to withstand being shot. The core hole could be filled with lead and the nose of the slug could be lathed or ground to a slightly beveled speaker cone like shape. A circumferential cut could be made about 1/4" down from the end and almost down to the valleys to facilitate spreading on impact but enough metal to hold the splines in place while being shot. That would leave a small solid tail ring section behind it that should shred everything behind the lead slug. Several short triangular pieces of spline separating from the slug and splaying outward (shredding your body armor) allows the lead core to get maximum penetration. You should probably never even try to make anything like that though.
