Recently the Opta Index chose seven Scottish players for the starting XV of the British and Irish Lions ahead of their Australian tour in 2025. Scotland, after being snubbed in the recent past by the Lions, shocked world rugby, with their 7 selections.
In actual fact Scotland has been slowly improving under the radar, with a shock win over a powerful Wallabies side.
This in turn is testament to their successful domestic program, with Glasgow Warriors comfortably winning the URC title, and other senior players plying their trade overseas with winning teams like Toulouse.

As a Scotland supporter we all know that we are good right now (well researched and good reasoning btw), but Scotland always plays or does best when no one ever tells us this. I'm gonna admit, Van Der Merwe is a key player for Scotland, and as he was already capped in the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour in South Africa, alongside his performances at Scotland this year and Edinburgh (even though Edinburgh is rather inconsistent) of course, he probably will go touring Australia.

Thank you for this video. Well researched and well constructed. As a Scot, what I’m taking from it is that there should be 10 Scots on the starting line up of the first test or something’s gone wrong!! 😂 As a realist, there’s no way Farell’s not starting Aki, given he’s the current Ireland coach. I always thought Wales were over-represented during the Gats era, and I expect the same of Ireland now (not unreasonable given their ranking)

We Scots get a lot of shit, but tbh I don't actually think we're doing too badly considering we've only got 2 pro teams and rugby will always play second fiddle to football. The SRU has done a lot of work with smaller clubs in terms of development and funding, especially outwith the private school and borders teams so I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of talent appearing from all corners of Scotland in the next few years. Really enjoying our form at the minute too. I don't think we have a 6N win quite yet, as Ireland and France are always incredibly hard games, but I'd be content with a top 3 finish. Either way, it's an exciting time for Scottish rugby

Faegerson and schoeman feel like the only forwards that will make a starting team out of the forwards, i could easily see any of the scots from 10-15 confidently making up most of the back line. russell, tuipolotu, jones, graham, kinghorne. Keenan, feyi wabaso, aki, ringrose and smith are probably their biggest competition for the positions. Regardless itll be a good tour against a bolstered Australia

Man for man I think we match up well to them, but we are not so well coached, we just lack that ‘something’ to make us winners. Not easy being Scottish!

For Scotland i think this 6N is our best chance ever to come second. Which would still be a great achievement. But i dont see us having the depth (especially in props) to go the whole way and i think this years France team is going to be too much for anyone. But we'll still play the most exciting running rugby in the tournament!!

@ClutchRugbyXV those lads are world class, especially Fagerson. But the guys on the bench just aren't that good, so our scrum tends to struggle in the last 20. So smart big teams will target that area, like South Africa did with the bomb squad.

Lions selection last 20 odd years has been a travesty for Scotland. We've always had plenty players worthy of selection for the squad who were continually ignored. Criminally so with, say Chris Paterson, Sean Lamont, I'd be here all day really. A travesty. Lets just say for me, that some journeymen from other nations were favoured. Well done to them though. As a result, I can't get excited about the Lions. I'd prefer to see us tour NZ this year and see if we could match the great Irish team of a couple of years ago.
