September 27 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, delivers the twenty-fourth in a series of speeches titled “The Scheme,” exposing the machinations by right-wing donor interests to capture the Supreme Court and achieve through the Court what they cannot through the elected branches of government.
Whitehouse outlines the ethics complaint he submitted earlier this month detailing ethical lapses by Justice Samuel Alito, which support billionaires’ lawyers’ blockade of congressional investigations into other ethical lapses by Alito, and underscore the lack of formal process at the Court for receiving or investigating such complaints.

Thank you Senator Whitehouse and staff for your work. The dictator court justices should not have supreme authority over congress and the president. Don't stop working on passing legislation for a code of ethics implemented on the Supreme Court Justices. The only reason for lifetime seating is so the Supreme Court Justices are not influenced politically, religiously or by special interest and as all can see that has not been the case in a long time. The lifetime seating needs to end and term limits and a code of ethics must be implemented for Supreme Court justices and federal judges by Congress. If we think Thomas and Alito are the only bought corrupt Republican appointed Supreme Court justices we are sadly mistaken. The corrupt Supreme Court justices and federal judges must be held accountable when the time comes. This cannot be ignored.

The Attorney General can appoint a special counsel to investigate all of these allegations and suspicions. The Justice Department certainly has the authority to investigate any crime it has reason to suspect. The proposition that the AG has no such authority is patently ridiculous because, simply stated; if Justice Alito was implicated in a murder for hire conspiracy,(for example), and his conspirators lawyer suggested that he, and his conspirators, are above and beyond investigation that would put all of them, including not only Alito but all of his coconpirators above the law. And that cannot stand.
